Nicolás "Nico" Brussino (born 2 March 1993) is an Argentine-Italian professional basketball player for Basket Zaragoza of the Spanish Liga ACB.

He also represents the senior Argentine national basketball team.

He mostly plays as a small forward, standing at 2.01 m (6 ft 7 in).

Personal life

Brussino, who has Italian ancestry (the surname was originally Bruscino), was granted Italian citizenship. Juan Antonio, Brussino's brother, plays basketball in Argentina.

Professional career

Brussino joined Regatas Corrientes on July 22, 2012 after two years playing for San Martn de Marcos Juárez. Brussino had a heart disease, a congenital disorder with an abnormal electrical contact between the atria and ventricles, prior to the 2012–2013 season. Despite this, he continued to play 29 games for Corrientes, averaging 1.9 points and 1.1 rebounds per game, while assisting Corrientes in the 2012-13 LNB championship.

In 2013, Brussino averaged 6.0 points and 2.6 rebounds in 55 games, and in 2014–15, he appeared in 55 games and averaged 9.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game.

Brussino joined Pearol on August 1, 2015, after a briefing. In 59 games, he averaged 14.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.5 steals.

Brussino signed with the Dallas Mavericks on July 15, 2016. In a 130–121 overtime loss to the Indiana Pacers on October 26, 2016, he made his NBA debut in the Mavericks' season opener, recording one assist in 34 seconds of game time. In the fourth quarter of the Mavericks' 112–107 victory over the Washington Wizards on March 15, 2017, he scored eight of his season-high 11 points. While playing 23 minutes off the bench, he had nine rebounds in the game. In a 98-87 loss to the Sacramento Kings on April 4, 2017, he had a season-high 13 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. He had several stints with the Texas Legends of the NBA Development League in his rookie season. He was waived by the Mavericks on July 20, 2017.

Brussino was voted off waivers by the Atlanta Hawks on July 22, 2017. After appearing in four games, he was suspended by the Hawks on December 8, 2017. He has also appeared in eight games with the Erie BayHawks, Atlanta's NBA G League affiliate.

Brussino signed with Spanish club Herbalife Gran Canaria for the remainder of the 2017-18 season on December 31, 2017.

Brussino signed Iberostar Tenerife of the Liga ACB on July 26, 2018.

Brussino signed Basket Zaragoza of the Liga ACB for two years on July 5, 2019. During the 2019-20 season, he averaged 9.8 points and 4 rebounds. Brussino re-signed with the team on June 12, 2020.

He has signed with Herbalife Gran Canaria of the Spanish Liga ACB on July 1, 2021.

National team career

Brussino is a member of Argentina's national basketball team. He earned a silver medal at the 2015 FIBA Americas Championship with Argentina's senior national team. He also competed in the 2016 Summer Olympics and at the 2017 FIBA AmeriCup, where he received a silver medal and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

In 2019, he was a member of the Pan American gold medal team in Lima. He was named in the Argentina squad for the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup and earned a silver medal with Argentina, who came runners-up to Spain at the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

In 2022, Brussino captured the gold medal in the 2022 FIBA AmeriCup, which took place in Recife, Brazil. He was one of Argentina's squad small forwards in the tournament.
