Nicholas "Nico" Musoke (born April 5, 1986) is a Swedish mixed martial artist who competes in the middleweight division of Swedish promotion Superior Challenge.
A professional mixed martial artist since 2007, Musoke has also competed in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Mixed martial arts career
Musoke started his MMA career as an amateur, defeating Jasper Gunnarsson in a losing proposition due to a split decision. He made his pro debut at Shooto Finland two years ago against Tomi Hietanen. In the first round, he gained by rear-naked choke. Nico then won his first three fights, with two of them ending in less than 50 seconds.
In the second round, Musoke suffered his first professional defeat at the hands of future BAMMA and UFC fighter Danny Mitchell, who died by armbar. With a TKO win over Wiktor Sobczyk at BOB 3, he came back from the defeat.
On June 18, 2011, he participated in a four-man tournament run by On Top Promotions, where the winner will be crowned OTP Welterweight champion. In the first fight, he suffered his second bout in his career, this time against future Cage Warriors Welterweight Champion and fellow UFC fighter Cathal Pendred. Pendred was however ruled out of the final before the tie could have taken place. Musoke earned his fame and defeated another potential UFC fighter, Stevie Ray, by submission due to a rear naked choke at the end of the first round, making him the OTP World Champion.
Since then, Musoke had been 4-0 (1) in his last 5 fights, including one defense of his OTP-title, before being asked by the United Nations to call him.
Musoke made his UFC debut against long-serving Alessio Sakara, filling in for injured Magnus Cedenblad at UFC Fight Night 30. He won the first round by armbar. He was named in the evening's selection of the Night.
Musoke returned to welterweight at UFC Fight Night 36 on February 15, 2014. Despite being dropped and nearly finished in the first round by Andrade, Musoke was able to recover quickly and take control of the game, rocking Andrade and directing the action on the ground in round 3. He was voted unanimously based on his results.
Musoke defeated Kelvin Gastelum at UFC Fight Night 44 in San Antonio, Texas, on June 28, 2014. Gastelum lost one and three quarter pounds and forfeited 20% of his fight fund to Musoke prior to the match. Gastelum fought back to win the next two rounds convincingly, resulting in a unanimous decision loss for Musoke after a good and relatively tight first round.
At UFC Fight Night 53, Musoke was briefly linked to a match with Amir Sadollah on October 4, 2014. Sadollah was withdrawn from the match against Musoke in favour of a match with Yoshihiro Akiyama on September 20, 2014 at UFC Fight Night 52. Musoke's instead met Alexander Yakovlev. He was victorious by a unanimous decision.
On January 24, 2015, Musoke took on Albert Tumenov at UFC on Fox 14. He was disqualified by a majority vote.
Musoke has returned from a long absence to face Bojan Velikovia in UFC Fight Night 109 on May 28, 2017. He lost by knockout in the third minute of the third round as Velikovi did a right hook to the temple, causing Musoke to wobble and collapse to the ground.
Musoke had signed a deal with his hometown Superior Challenge and will be moving to middleweight on September 12, 2018, more than a year after his last fight in the UFC. Musoke met Daniel Acácio at Superior Challenge 18 on December 1, 2018. He was a winner in the fight by unanimous decision.
On May 11, 2019, Musoke defeated Dylan Andrews at the Superior Challenge Middleweight Championship, defeating him in a Super Challenge Middleweight Championship. He was a champion in the fight who took the title by unanimous decision.
