Nick Evans Career

Professional career

Nick Evans was born in Glendale, Arizona. In the fifth round of the 2004 MLB draft, he was selected out of St. Mary's High School in Phoenix, Arizona, by the Mets.

On May 24, 2008, Evans was called up from Double-A Binghamton to replace Marlon Anderson, who had been on the disabled list. He appeared in left field for the Mets and batted eighth.

In Evans' first at bat, he doubled off Colorado Rockies pitcher Jeff Francis. He was the first Met to hit three extra-base hits in his major league debut since Kazuo Matsui in 2004. In his first game, Evans became the first player in National League history to reach three doubles.

Since being batting.174 in nine games when the Mets decided to call on Abraham Nez for infield depth, Evans was carted back to Binghamton on June 6 after batting.174 in nine games. After Ryan Church went on the disabled list, Evans was recalled on July 8.

Evans made his first Major League appearance at first base, his natural spot, on August 7, 2008, after only previously playing one inning with the Mets.

Evans made his first Major League home run against the Florida Marlins off pitcher Scott Olsen on August 31, 2008.

Evans spent the 2009 season in Triple-A Buffalo but was eventually sent to Double-A Binghamton. Evans was called up by the Mets on June 19. On June 24, he had his first home run of the year.

On August 25, 2009, Nick was recalled along with pitcher Pat Misch after Billy Wagner was traded to the Boston Red Sox, and Johan Santana was placed on the 15-day disabled list.

He was recalled on May 18, 2011 to replace David Wright after he went on the 15-day disabled list with a stress fracture in his back. Evans was scheduled for assignment on June 10, in order to make room for Lucas Duda. Since Jose Reyes was put on the 15-day disabled list, he had his contract renewed on July 7. On July 22, he was still listed for service.

Evans agreed to a minor league deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates on November 22, 2011. Evans left the game in the eighth inning after breaking his wrist. He didve for a ball in foul territory but landed on his wrist after his glove bent backwards on the ground. Evans departed the field and was replaced by Jake Fox. In his left hand, he fractured three bones. Evans underwent surgery on May 3 to insert pins in his broken left hand. On August 2, 2012, he began a rehab stint with the Gulf Coast League Pirates. However, he did not return to Indianapolis until the season ended. Evans became a free agent in November 2012.

On November 20, 2012, he signed a minor league deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers, which included an invitation to spring training. He was fired by the Dodgers on March 18, 2013 after struggling to secure a career with the team.

In March 2013, Evans joined the Arizona Diamondbacks. After a disappointing 2012 season, he was sent to Double-A Mobile to regain his form. He hit.267 with 19 HR (fourth in the Southern League) and 81 RBI (third) in 133 games for the BayBears at first and third base. As the South Division's starting designated hitter, he was also a mid-season All-Star. Evans joined Triple-A Reno in 2014, where he was hitting.335 with 11 HR and 44 RBI before receiving a promotion. Evans, a native of Glendale, Arizona, grew up rooting for the Dbacks.

He was called up on May 28 to replace outfielder Alfredo Marte. He was in his first major league game since September 28, 2011 as a defensive replacement for first baseman Paul Goldschmidt. In his first appearance with Arizona on June 3, he was the first to get a kick. Evans was scheduled for rotation on June 12 to make room for the recently named Jordan Pacheco. On June 27, he was called back to work. On July 28, he was released by the Diamondbacks.

On July 28, 2014, Evans signed with the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles of Nippon Professional Baseball.

In November 2015, Evans signed a minor league deal with the San Diego Padres. However, only a few weeks later, he decided to sign with the Korea Baseball Organization's Doosan Bears for a one-year contract worth $550,000.

Coaching career

Evans resigned and was named as a mentor for the Arizona Diamondbacks' Visalia Rawhide team in the 2019 season.

Shock at Melbourne's prestigious Wesley College over Year 9 student's sudden death as principal sends emotional message to parents

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 19, 2024
Wesley College principal Nick Evans sent an email to the parents of students who attend the prestigious Melbourne school to inform them of the tragic news on Thursday afternoon.

Marcus Smith has gone from schoolboy sensation to England's big fish at fly-half... now he's angling to beat the All Blacks in New Zealand

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 2, 2024
Marcus Smith has the Midas touch. As if any further proof were needed, he took part in a fishing trip with several England team-mates a few days ago - and soon got the knack.  Revealing that he caught 'three or four', the Harlequins fly-half added: 'There were other lads who hauled in more than me, but that was my first proper experience of fishing. Almost every time I put the lure in, I managed to catch something. I put a few back because they weren't big enough. It is not every day you get to do that and cook massive red snapper.' Putting aside the fact that his Kiwi club mentor, Nick Evans, mocked Smith's choice of fishing attire, it was an illuminating tale about a talented individual. Whether he is on a boat or on a rugby field, he has good skills and instincts. Now, Smith also has the status to match his innate ability. He is England's senior fly-half on this tour. The No 10 shirt is seemingly his for the taking, long-term.

Steve Borthwick seeks clarity but instead there's confusion, writes CHRIS FOY: It's anyone's guess what England's plan will be for his 20th match in charge against hot favourites Ireland

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 3, 2024
CHRIS FOY: England seems to have crossed the road as they brace for a showdown with Ireland at Twickenham on Saturday. They have reached a difficult junction, in fact, all the lights are off, and they don't have a map. When Steve Borthwick took over the national team in December 2022, the buzz word was 'clarity,' and that was achieved with a narrow game-plan at the new World Cup.
