Early life
Natascha Abigail Taylor, a student at the University of Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, was born on December 14th, 1971[3] to Noel and Michael Taylor, both Irish and journalists. [4] She used her mother's maiden name as her stage name. [3] McElhone has a scriptwriter brother, Damon, who lives in Los Angeles, and two half-brothers, Alexander, who lives in Zürich, and Nicholas, who lives in Stockholm. When she was two years old, her parents separated. Her Irish mother moved the family to Brighton, where they met married columnist Roy Greenslade later.
McElhone, who took lessons in Irish dancing from six to 12, was educated at St. Mark's CofE Primary School, Brighton, St Mary's Hall, Brighton, Brighton, Brighton, Westminster's Bay, Camden School for Girls, London, and William Ellis, London. In 1993, she graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.[5]
Personal life
McElhone married plastic surgeon Martin Hirigoyen Kelly on May 19, 1998. The pair and their sons Theodore (born 2000) and Otis (born May 2003), and Rex (born in October 2008, five months after Kelly's death) lived in Fulham, South-West London.
Kelly, 43, was discovered slumped in the doorway of his family's house by a fellow physician, who had him rush to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital (where he worked). He could not be revived and died just a few days after his tenth wedding anniversary. The cause of death was found to have been dilated cardiomyopathy, according to a postmortem examination.
McElhone continued to write letters after her husband's sudden death, often detailing the daily grind of life but also dealing with how she and their young children were dealing with their loss. These letters and diary entries formed the basis for her book After You: Letters of Love and Losse to a Husband and Father. In July 2010, the book was published (in the UK Kindle version only).
Career
McElhone began her career in theatre, including performances in Richard III and A Midsummer Night's Dream at Regent's Park, London, and The Cherry Orchard at the Haymarket Theatre Leicester. She made her television debut in Bergerac in 1991 (credited on screen as Natascha Taylor) and appeared in an episode of Absolutely Fabulous in 1992.
McElhone appeared in two episodes of the Dennis Potter TV miniseries Karaoke. Surviving Picasso (1996), with co-star Anthony Hopkins, was her first major box-office role. The Truman Show (1998), one of Jim Cary's most popular films to date, was one of her most popular films to date.
