Naguib Onsi Sawiris (born 17 June 1954) is an Egyptian billionaire businessman.

Sawiris is chairman of Weather Investments and chairman of Orascom Telecom Media and Technology Holding S.A.E.

Early life

Onsi Sawiris, the businessman who created Orascom Group) and Yousriya Loza Sawiris, Naguib's youngest brother, was born in Cairo, Egypt, on June 15, 1954. Both his brothers, Nassef and Samih, are billionaires. Naguib received a Diploma from the German Evangelical School in Giza as well as a Diplom of Mechanical Engineering with a Master's degree in Technical Administration from ETH Zurich.

Sawiris is married and has four children. He lives in Cairo. He speaks in Arabic, English, German, and French.

Sawiris has contributed to the company's expansion and diversification into what it is today, Egypt's largest and most diversified conglomerates, as well as the country's largest private sector employer. Orascom's railway, information technology, and telecommunications industries were all built by Sawiris. In the late 90s, Orascom Telecom Holding (OTH), Orascom Construction Industries (OCI), Orascom Hotels & Development, and Orascom Technology Systems (OTS). Orascom Telecom Holding was established in 1997, and Orascom Telecom Media and Technologies in 2011, before the rebranding of Orascom Investment Holding S.A.E. (OIH), in which he is the Managing Director and CEO of.

Sawiris was elected chairman of La Mancha Holding in August 2012.

Sawiris sold his interest in his telecommunications businesses to Russian firm Vimplecom in 2014.

Sawiris bought a majority stake in Euronews, the pan-European television network. He remained as the primary shareholder until he began selling his interest to Alpac Capital in December 2021.

In September 2015, he promised to purchase an island off the coast of Greece or Italy to help hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing the Syrian civil war. However, he admitted that the scheme could be challenged in terms of jurisdictions and customs control.

Sawiris resigned as the CEO of Orascom Telecom Media & Technology in December 2016.
