Morne Steyn Career

Playing career

He was a member of the Bulls' 2007 and 2010 Super Rugby squads. He was the top point scorer in the league in 2009 and 2010. He kicked four drop goals in the 2009 semi-finals against the Crusaders, a league record for a single game.

He competed for Stade Français from 2013 to 2020. In a 38–3 victory over Biarritz on August 30, he made his debut on August 30th. He converted two tries in the 60th minute and scored four points in the 60th minute.

Despite South Africa coach Peter de Villiers' success in the Super 14 tournament, he preferred Ruan Pienaar in the Springbok number 10 jersey in early 2009. When Pienaar's kicking game disintegrated, Steyn was on the replacement bench during the second Test of the 2009 British & Irish Lions tour to South Africa. Steyn converted Pienaar and two penalties, one from 53 meters (58 yd) in the dying minutes of the game, giving the Springboks the match and the series in dramatic fashion.

South Africa defeated New Zealand 31–19 in their 2009 Tri Nations Series match in Durban on August 1st. Steyn scored all of the Springboks' 31 points (8 penalty kicks, as well as converting his own attempt) on his fifth cap and his second start. Several records were broken, among them the most points won by an individual in a Tri Nations match, which was previously held by Andrew Mehrtens with his 29 points against Australia in 1999 (one conversion and nine penalties).

Steyn scored the most points by a player at the 2011 Rugby World Cup, 62 points.

He was selected as a replacement for the deciding third test against the British & Irish Lions in August 2021, having not played for South Africa since 2016. He replaced Handré Pollard in the second half, and South Africa beat the game and the series for the second time as he did in 2009.
