The assassination gunman fired multiple shots at people before launching into a black SUV and escaping through an alleyway. According to the media outlet, it was not immediately clear who the gunman was firing towards. On Chicago Fire, a fire broke out nearby, causing confusion as the true firefighters were in the same uniforms as the actor firefighters.
