Mohammad Irfan Career

Domestic career

Irfan received several calls from first-class clubs, including Habib Bank and ZTBL, after impressing coaches at the National Cricket Academy. Azhar Ali, the KRL's opener, persuaded KRL coach Rashid Iqbal to give Irfan a trial with Khan Research Laboratories (KRL). Azhar had seen Irfan take 4 wickets against Pakistan A and had immediately called KRL, alerting them that Irfan will be a good match for their team. Irfan was tested and then selected during the trial.

In October 2009, he made his first-class debut in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy while working for Khan Research Laboratories. He bowled economically, but was unable to take any wickets in a high scoring game. Irfan's second-class game was 7–113 in the second innings and 9 wickets total. Ahmed Shehzad, a young Pakistani international batsman, was his first wicket in professional cricket. He took Imran Farhat's wicket and injured Hasan Raza with a bouncer before taking his wicket.

Irfan's first-class career began early on, and he continued to excel early in his career. In his third match, he took 11 wickets to help his team win for the first time in the championship. In the second innings, he took 5/27 in the first innings and 6/96 in the second innings.

Irfan was considering giving up cricket and joining a plastic pipe company before being handed a lucrative break in cricket. He declared his height at 7'1", making him the country's highest first-class cricketer of all time over county players Anthony Allom, Paul Dunkelman, and Will Jefferson, who were both 6'10" tall.

In the 2011 IPL season, Irfan revealed that he had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to represent them. This agreement is only valid as long as the PCB and the BCCI provide their permission. Because former Pakistani pace-bowler Wasim Akram recommended that Irfan be investigated by the KKR's board, there was the primary reason for Irfan's conviction. Irfan's employment will earn him an additional $2,000 per game he plays in. However, the deal must be confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India. Irfan's employment also needs to be approved by the Pakistan Cricket Board, according to Irfan's.

He was selected to play for the Edmonton Royals in the inaugural edition of the Global T20 Canada tournament on June 3, 2018. With six dismissals in six matches, he was the joint-leading wicket taker in the Edmonton Royals' tournament.

During the 2018 Caribbean Premier League, Irfan conceded only 1 run and grabbed 2 wickets from 4 overs, bowling for the Barbados Tridents against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. This was the most cost-effective four-over spell in T20 cricket.

In the first edition of the Afghanistan Premier League tournament in September 2018, he was selected in Balkh's squad. Following the draft for the 2018–19 Bangladesh Premier League, he was named in the squad for the Sylhet Sixers team the following month. He was selected to play for the Rajshahi Royals in the 2019-20 Bangladesh Premier League in November 2019. The Bangladesh Premier League champions were unveiled in the final, and Irfan went 2/18 in his four over stint.

Following the players' draft for the 2021 Lanka Premier League, he was selected to play for the Colombo Stars in November 2021.

International career

Irfan spent his entire career in a pipe factory earning only 300 rupees ($3) a week before being spotted by former first-class cricketer Nadeem Iqbal in a club match, after which he made his Pakistan national cricket team debut at 28 years old. Irfan was brought on to replace Pakistan's two most popular and core bowlers, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif, who were accused of spot fixing in 2010. For Pakistan, this was a great chance for them to shine as they began without their two outstanding bowlers. However, Irfan's ODI debut against England in 2010 saw a decrease of 9 overs in the match due to poor weather. He ended the game with bowling figures of 0–37 off 5.3 overs before he went off the pitch with cramps. Many people were dissatisfied with Irfan's performance during his early years in his career. This was largely due to his speed in his debut series against England; it disappointed many because the velocity radar only indicated 130–135 km/h. England had won the match by 24 runs, which made it worse. After the series, Irfan was dropped and was not allowed to return until the India series, which was on December 25, 2012.

In the first Twenty20 International match against India on December 25, 2012, Irfan made his Twenty20 International debut against India in the first Twenty20 International match against India, when the Pakistani team was touring India. As the wild card that propelled Pakistan to victory, Irfan emerged as a key figure in the series victory over India. His bowling speeds increased from the 135 km/h he had seen two years ago in this series. Irfan brings a new dimension to the Pakistan bowling attack, with 71 and bowling at brisk speeds. Virat Kohli was surprised, awaiting his return to 130-135 kph, according to his workers, but Irfan's speeds soon reached 150 kph.

Irfan's rise in South Africa didn't go unnoticed, as the Pakistan selectors hailed him as "the surprise package" in the country in March 2013. Irfan did not disappoint as he threw away the South African batsmen with his speed and height. With a slower economy rate of 4.09, Irfan completed the first innings with 3 wickets and 1 maiden in 21 overs, conceding 86 runs in 21 overs. Irfan was unable to take a wicket in the second innings, despite receiving figures of 0-35 off ten overs.

The PCB banned Irfan from all forms of cricket on March 29, 2017 for failing to announce two attempts to corrupt the game during the 2017 Pakistan Super League. The suspension was retroactive to March 14, 2017, the day he was first provisionally suspended. In addition, Irfan was fined PKR 1 million. If Irfan aids the PCB in its ongoing investigations and does not breach the anti-corruption legislation at the time, he will have his suspension lifted after six months.

In 2022 PSL, Irfan appeared for the Quetta Gladiators.
