Miloslav Vlk (Czech) [[moloslaf vl.l] [[m]The 17 May 1932 – March 2017] was a Czech prelate of the Roman Catholic Church who served as Archbishop of Prague from 1991 to 2010. In 1994, he was made a cardinal. He was also the President of the Council of European Bishops' Conferences (1993–2001).
Early life
Vlk was born in Llnice, a rural area of Sepekov's Prussian District of Southern Bohemia, in the P'sek District of Southern Bohemia. He spent his youth in Zálu, near Chyny, where he attended elementary school and experienced farm labour.
He first started worrying about the priesthood at the age of 11. He was initially attracted by a poster hanging in his parish church that was continuing to pique his interest. 'Wouldn't you like to be a priest,' the poster said.' At the time, that aspiration seemed unattainable, so he aspired to become an airline pilot.
He passed his final examination at Secondary School in eské Budohoe, Southern Bohemia, on June 20, 1952. Theological investigations were impossible in those years of Communist persecution, so from 1952 to 1953 he worked at the Motor Union automobile plant in eské Budjovice, and from 1953 to 1955 did military service in Karlovy Vary.
Despite the political uncertainty, after being expelled, he was able to study archived science at the Charles University in Prague and received his degree in 1960. He worked in various archives in Southern Bohemia, including at the Regional Archives of Tebo in Jindjovice, and from December 1960 to 1964 at the Civic and District Archives of ebo, where he served as director.
He also wrote a series of journal papers in various scientific journals during the same period. In 1964, he left this work in order to attend the Theology Faculty of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Litom, Litom (1964-1968).
