Anthony Soter Fernandez Life

Anthony Soter Fernandez (born 22 April 1930) is the first Malaysian Cardinal and Archbishop Emeritus of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia's Roman Catholic Archdiocese.

On the 30th of July 1983, Archbishop John Paul II ordained him and became the Archdiocese's second Archbishop after his installation on November 10, 1983.

Murphy Nicholas Xavier Pakiam.Fernandez was ordained as a priest on December 10, 1966, and served as president of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei from 1987-1990 to 2003. Fernandez is the former bishop of Penang, where he served as bishop from 17 February 1978 to his transfer to Kuala Lumpur. Fernandez was made a cardinal by Pope Francis during the consistory on November 19th and became the first Malaysian to be named as a cardinal.
