Early life
Ventimiglia was born in Anaheim, California, on July 8, 1977, the youngest child of Carol (née Wilson) and Peter Ventimiglia, a Vietnam War veteran. Leslie and Laurel are his two sisters. His father is of Italian-Sicilian descent, and his mother is of English and Scottish origins. Ventimiglia has a self-described "crooked mouth," meaning that the left side of his mouth will remain immobile, much like actor Sylvester Stallone, who appeared in Rocky Balboa.
Ventimiglia attended El Modena High School in Orange, California. Ventimiglia debuffed, appeared in drama, and served as student government president in high school, graduating in 1995. Ventimiglia attended the American Conservatory Theater for their summer program, then attending the University of California, Los Angeles as a theatre major.

Ventimiglia, an eighteen, pursued acting, first appearing as a gay teenager in Must Be the Music, a short film released as part of Strand Releasing's Boys Life 2. He studied at UCLA before landing a role on The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, a guest on television programs including CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, and Boston Public. In the short-lived Fox TV series Opposite Sex, which premiered in 2000, he played Jed Perry.
Ventimiglia starred Jess Mariano on Gilmore Girls from 2001 to 2006; he appeared in the second season as a leading cast member. He pretended to be in a spin-off of Gilmore Girls called Windward Circle, but it never made it to television. In season four and two episodes in season six, he went back to a guest star/repeating cast member, and he came back for four episodes.
