Club career

Born in Eibar, Gipuzkoa, Oyarzabal, the Oyarzabal's youth group joined Real Sociedad's youth group in 2011, aged 14. Although a freshman, he made his senior debut with the reserves on November 15, 2014, winning as a second-half replacement in a 3–2 victory over SD Amorebieta in the Segunda División B.

In a 5–0 away victory over CD Mensajero on September 20, Oyarzabal scored twice in his first senior goals. In the dying minutes of a 4–0 victory over Levante UD, he made his first-team and La Liga debut on October 25th, replacing Carlos Vela.

In a 5–0 away victory over RCD Espanyol on February 8, Oyarzabal scored his first goal for Real Sociedad on February 8, 2016. He scored two goals to help defeat Granada CF 3–0 at the Anoeta Stadium six days after extending his contract until 2021.

Oyarzabal's contract was renewed for a second time on August 19th, 2016, until 2022. He appeared in all 38 league games over the season as the San Sebastián-based team finished sixth and returned to the UEFA Europa League after a two-year absence.

Oyarzabal made his European debut on October 19th, scoring in a 6–0 thrashing of Macedonia's FK Vardar in the Europa League group stage; his team made it to the last 32, with him scoring an own goal in a 4–3 aggregate loss to FC Red Bull Salzburg. He scored 12 goals, two in a 5–0 victory over Girona FC on April 8, 2018.

In a 3–1 away victory over Athletic Bilbao in the Basque derby on October 5, 2018, Oyarzabal scored his first goals since May of this year, two penalties. Athletic Bilbao had attempted to recruit him during the summer transfer window, but the club had declined to sign a new deal with Real Sociedad that would last until 2024.

Oyarzabal's team defeated CD Mirandé 3-1 aggregate in the 2019-20 Copa del Rey final for the first time since 1988. He scored his 50th goal for the club against Granada on July 10th and a 3–0 win over Getafe CF on October 3rd.

Oyarzabal's only goal of the postponed 2020 Copa del Rey Final, as well as a penalty, helped Real Sociedad win their first match in 34 years after defeating Athletic Bilbao on April 3r 2021. During a training session in March 2022, he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee, effectively ending his life for the remainder of the year.

International career

At under-18, 19-21, and under-21 levels, Oyarzabal represented Spain. He was called up to the full squad for a friendly against Bosnia and Herzegovina on May 17, 2016. He replaced Nolito (who had scored) at the hour of the 3–1 victory 12 days later.

In a 3–0 victory over Sweden in the UEFA Euro 2020 qualifiers on June 10, 2019, Oyarzabal scored his first goal. He was drafted into Luis Enrique's 24-man squad for the finals in May 2021. He scored the last goal of a 5–3 extra time victory over Croatia in the last 16. He scored the last attempt of a penalty shootout victory over Switzerland (1–1 after 120 minutes) in the following round.

In 2021, Oyarzabal was also selected for the Olympic team in Tokyo. He scored three times for the runners, including once in the 2–1 loss to Brazil.

Oyarzabal scored the first goal of the game in the 2021 UEFA Nations League Final against France on October ten, although Spain lost 2–1 on the match.

Oyarzabal has also played for the unofficial Basque national team, scoring on his debut to cap a 3–1 victory over Tunisia at the San Mamés Stadium on December 30, 2016.
