Since a first attempt failed last year, George Gascon (left) of America's most populated county has survived a second attempt to run in a recall election that will see him removed from office. To schedule an election, activists who supported the recall (right) were expected to collect at least 570,000 valid petition signatures. However, LA County officials found that only 520,000 signatures were valid after being rejected by nearly 200,000 out of 710,000 signatures as invalid. Residents in Los Angeles are outraged by the increasing murder rate, which they believe is a result of Gascon's lenient prosecuting policies.
