Michael Thomas (born March 8, 1988 in Olathe, Kansas) is an American soccer player who most recently played with the Oklahoma City Energy of the USL.
Career

Thomas also played for the Kansas City Brass in the USL Premier Development League during his college years.
Thomas was drafted in the second round (19th overall) of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft by San Jose Earthquakes. Thomas left the United States to test with Halmstads BK in Allsvenskan, after the club's inability to loan wished players from its affiliate club RCD Espanyol, Thomas was granted a short term deal, but it wasn't until Thomas was fully signed by Halmstads BK on March 20, 2010, that was delayed due to ambiguities regarding which laws applied, Swedish or American, as well as Thomas' previous club affiliation, that had to be Halmstads BK announced on July 3 that they did not use the clause to prolong Thomas' contract until the end of the season, and that Joakim Wrele from the youth squad will take his place.
Following a fruitful hearing, the club agreed to keep him for the remainder of the 2010 season. He came from Halmstads BK just shy of being released. Thomas was a starter for the club, playing in 47 league games and scoring 8 goals.
Thomas signed a Major League Soccer team Sporting Kansas City on January 18, 2012, marking his return to his hometown Kansas. Thomas' MLS rights had been transferred from San Jose in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2012 MLS Supplemental Draft, which was the previous day Sporting Kansas City had acquired Thomas' MLS rights.
Thomas was traded to Toronto FC on July 2, 2013 in exchange for a second-round 2015 MLS SuperDraft pick. Following the 2013 season, he was not retained.
