News about Michael Carrick

Their swagger and style has the town buzzing and this weekend they can return to the top flight for the first time since 2002 - How magic Kieran McKenna pulled off the Ipswich revolution

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 3, 2024
Kieran McKenna began his coaching journey on crutches. He was aged just 22, and coming to terms with the premature end of his playing career after a second major hip operation when Tottenham academy bosses invited him to join them. Just for a taste of it. To see if he liked the idea. Turned out he liked it a lot. Turned out he was pretty good at it, too, just as those who extended the invitation knew he would be, and McKenna set about plotting a route to the top. The early steps involved a sports science degree at Loughborough University, coaching the students in non-League and Nottingham Forest 's Under 9s in the evenings and spending summers coaching in North America. Now, 15 years on, McKenna is one point from back-to-back promotions with Ipswich Town, on the brink of becoming a Premier League manager, taking his club back to the top flight after a 22-year exile. Over the past two seasons, no team in the top four divisions of English football has accumulated more points (191) or scored more goals (191) than Ipswich. Only Manchester City and Arsenal have a better points per game ratio.

Hull City 2-2 Middlesbrough: Finn Azaz earns Michael Carrick's side a point but draw dents both teams' Championship play-off hopes

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 10, 2024
ADAM SHERGOLD AT THE MKM STADIUM: This was a terrific game between two teams who went hammer and tongs to share four goals. The point apiece they gained as reward? Pretty useless. While both Hull and Middlesbrough remain in the hunt for the final play-off place, this draw was the result neither wanted. It leaves them locked together on 62 points in ninth and tenth, some six points adrift of Norwich in sixth. You wouldn't bet on either extending their season from here, though Hull do have a game in hand on Boro and Norwich, if not Coventry and Preston inbetween.

'He's just Dad to me but to other jockeys he's a God! 'Grace is a student at the University of On Amberleigh House 20 years ago, Graham Lee received the Grand National on a 20-year anniversary.' Now paralysed from the neck down after a horror fall, his family and racing greats have raised £200,000 for his care

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 4, 2024
Amy Lee is in her element. Her Dad, Graham, rode the winner of the Grand National, and she's been listening to all sorts of stories about Amberleigh House, profitable wagers, and memories that will last a lifetime. Her smile is infectious. Amy, who is 19 and studying musical theatre, says, 'I love being with people who know Dad.' Everyone has their own really cool stories to tell, and everyone has been dying to help so much.' To me, dad is just dad. I've never really understood how amazing he was as a jockey.' He was indeed. Lee has earned a spot in racing that will be his alone for the first time ever more, the first man to represent the winner of the world's greatest race, and then go back to National Hunt racing to become a flat jockey in Royal Ascot's oldest event.

In Middlesbrough's vs. Sheffield Wednesday, Emmanuel Latte Lath led to first scoring at 5/1, while Sky Bet's Isaiah Jones is tenth

www.dailymail.co.uk, April 1, 2024
Sheffield Wednesday is heading to the Riverside in the hopes of beating Middlesbrough and winning their first match in three matches. Depending on other outcomes, a victory could help them climb out of the relegation zone - but they don't come into the match as underdogs, with Sky Bet offering odds of 16/5 for the Owls to win. Middlesbrough, on the other hand, is undefeated in their last five games, with the exception of drawing 1-1 to Southampton on Friday night at St Mary's. Michael Carrick's side is the clear favorite to win this match, with Sky Bet offering 4/5 odds on their 17th victory of the season. Both teams will draw at 11/4.

WONDERS OF THE PYRAMID: Who gets promoted to the Premier League, which teams make the play-offs and who's going down? The big questions answered ahead of a Championship Easter feast

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 29, 2024
LEWIS STEELE: The Championship is back for another jam-packed Easter season, with some teams making or breaking a team's promotion campaign, while others relegating for points in order to prevent dreaded relegation. Leicester won 13 games in the first 14 games back in the second tier after their fairytale era ended with relegation. However, the Championship is a marathon, not a sprint, and the Foxes have faltered, not a sprint.

CHRIS WHEELER recalls Manchester United's past glory after their 3-2 victory over Liverpool... but does he agree with his picks?

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 18, 2024
CHRIS WHEELER: Old Trafford has seen some classic games in recent times, and Manchester United's dramatic FA Cup quarter-final victory over Liverpool on Sunday was up there with the best of them. United's cameback to defeat their bitter rivals 4-3, with a 121st-minute goal from Amad Diallo, who was running late in normal time and again in extra-time. I was screaming and I couldn't hear my voice, so you get a sense of what the noise was like for us on the pitch,' said captain Bruno Fernandes afterwards.'

Middlesbrough 3-1 Norwich: Borja Sainz's daft red card was left on the table for Canaries' victory as Marcus Forss, Emmanuel Latte Lath, and Lukas Engel goals stopped Boro from falling

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 6, 2024
ADAM SHERGOLD OF THE RIVERSIDE STADIUM: Norwich were left to rue Borja Sainz's moment of eptitude as they sought to advance to Championship play-off positions. During a first-half flashpoint, the Spaniard raked his studs to Jonny Howson's thigh, earning referee Bobby Madley a straight red card. Norwich, who were dominating the half-hour and leading to Ashley Barnes' cheeky finish, never recovered from going down to 10. Middlesbrough took over and led by halftime, thanks to Marcus Forss and Emmanuel Latte Lath's goals before Lukas Engel wrapped it up after the break. After a streak of just one league victory in seven years that has pushed them sadly into a late-season relegation battle, Michael Carrick eased the pressure on him.

Since INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe see his new job title as'misleading,' a man United legend is expected to play a new position at Old Trafford.'

www.dailymail.co.uk, March 6, 2024
According to reports, Manchester United is scheduled to appoint a former player to a new position at the club because his current association with Erik ten Hag's first-team is seen as'misleading.' Sir Dave Brailsford, the right-hand man of Ratcliffe and INEOS's right-hand man, is also looking for more high-quality staff capable of working alongside the INEOS system and Ratcliffe's right-hand man.

Leicester 1-2 Middlesbrough: Finn Isaac Azaz and Samuel Silvera on target as Michael Carrick's side stun Enzo Maresca's league leaders despite Jamie Vardy's late consolation

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 17, 2024
GRAHAM HILL AT THE KING POWER STADIUM: Enzo Maresca, Leicester's third home loss of the season, says nothing as he prepares for the top-two clash against Leeds on Friday. Middlesbrough shocked the King Power to complete a double over the Championship leaders thanks to a strong first-half showing. Boro's bestowed him the points, despite Michael Carrick's team's hemmingly at the end, as Jamie Vardy's 12th goal of the season gave Leicester hope. The Foxes are now nine points ahead of Leeds and 11 ahead of Southampton in third, with Maresca referring to this result as "one of those days."

Middlesbrough 1-1 Sunderland: Visitors earn a point, according to Nazariy Rusyn's late leveller, who brought Michael Carrick's side ahead of him

www.dailymail.co.uk, February 4, 2024
ADAM SHERGOLD AT THE RIVERSIDE STADIUM: They claim that a point is never to be sniffed at, particularly in a tight play-off match, but there was no joy in this draw. Middlesbrough argued they should have continued to win after Marcus Forss volleyed home in eye-catching fashion. Sunderland gained a point through Nazary Rusyn, but the team nonetheless had enough chances to take all three points.

Villa Aston has agreed a £15 million contract for Middlesbrough actor Morgan Rogers, as well as a medical set on Wednesday, with Man City expected to pay less than half of the fee due to a sell-on clause

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 30, 2024
The 21-year-old has been productive for the Championship team this season, scoring seven goals and nine assists in all competitions. He joined Boro in the summer but has flourished under new manager Michael Carrick.

Despite Middlesbrough's rejection of two bids, Morgan Rogers wants to join Aston Villa

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 25, 2024
Unai Emery, Villa's chairman, has targeted Rogers as a key contributor this month, and it's likely that Villa will make a new bid for the 21-year-old, who is worth about £10 million by Boro, this month. Rogers has seven goals and eight assists in all competitions this term, and has thrived under new manager Michael Carrick. The FA Cup will be decided against Chelsea on Friday at Stamford Bridge, with Villa forward Jhon Duran the subject of worry from the London club. Duran has grown frustrated with what he feels is a lack of first-team opportunities at Villa, and he's open to moving somewhere else. The Colombian was signed a year earlier a contract that could have a price tag of about £16 million. Although Emery granted the deal, sporting director Johan Lange, who is now working at Tottenham Hotspur, fueled it.

After Middlesbrough's 6-1 loss in the Carabao Cup semi-finals, Michael Carrick singled out one Chelsea player, branding him a "true artist" and tipped him for a "great career" he's alumnical

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 24, 2024
Since seeing Chelsea's first hand in the Carabao Cup semi-finals, Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick believes one Chelsea star has destined for a "great career." Chelsea defeated the Championship team 6-1 at Stamford Bridge in the second leg of their semi-finals, with the Blues overturning a 1-0 deficit from the first match. Chelsea took the lead after a Jonny Howson own goal, as well as strikes from Enzo Fernandez and Axel Disasi.

Middlesbrough fans have been encouraged to participate in the 'fairytale' journey to Wembley Stadium ahead of Chelsea's first domestic final in 20 years, according to Boro boss Michael Carrick

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 22, 2024
CRAIG HOPE: Even if he is refusing to watch beyond Tuesday's match, Michael Carrick has told Middlesbrough supporters that they should watch Chelsea and make it to Wembley. In the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-finals, the Championship team will travel to Stamford Bridge with a 1-0 lead. Fans should expect to see them through to the first domestic final in 20 years, according to Carrick, who played three times for Manchester United.

Morgan Rogers, a middlesbrough player, has made his third attempt at Aston Villa, with Manchester City paying a sell-on fee if the midfielder leaves

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 21, 2024
After the Championship club's opening two bids were turned down by Aston Villa, Morgan Rogers' forward Morgan Rogers has made an improved bid for Middlesbrough forward Morgan Rogers. If the 21-year-old, who cost Boro £1 million in the summer, leaves Manchester City, they will be charged with a sell-on fee. Villa have also approached Iceland goalkeeper Hakon Valdimarsson from Swedish top-flight side Elfsborg.

Manchester United is looking to keep Amad Diallo, a winger on loan request from Middlesbrough... with the 21-year-old impressing in Red Devils training

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 17, 2024
SIMON JONES: Despite a loan request from Michael Carrick's Middlesbrough, Manchester United's Middlesbrough is trying to hold Amad Diallo. The winger has impressed in preparation and will be recalled as back-up for other first-team players, such as Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Antony. Following a fruitful briefing stay with Sunderland last season, which saw the Black Cuts finish outside the play-off positions, Diallo has spent this season with the Red Devils.

The Ant & Dec of football has returned to Colchester United, but Danny and Nicky Cowley are trapped in a maze of a relegation contest

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 11, 2024
LEWIS STEELE: Danny and Nicky Cowley's new year kicked off with a bang, with the sociable pair given the Colchester United job. But 2024 has already seen the older brother being compelled to drop last year's health-kick resolution, given the fact of football's beast. Danny Cowley tells Mail Sport, 'This job is 24-7 and there's not enough time for sleep.' I walked every single day for at least an hour in 2023. I've been in this job for six days, and I've already had three days where I did absolutely no exercise. All my healthy habits are based on Gone.'

LEWIS STEELE is a journalist who writes about Middlesbrough's win over Chelsea in the first leg — not David vs. Goliath cup match... Michael Carrick's Championship side made the billionaire Blues look normal

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 10, 2024
LEWIS STEELE: The best compliment one can give to Michael Carrick's Middlesbrough, although there are several, is that this did not appear to be a David-versus-Goliath cup match. The Championship team made their billionaire opposition look normal, which says a lot about Mauricio Pochettino's guys. Chelsea, of course, was still the favourites to progress from this two-legged tie and make the grand final at Wembley at the end of February, but the team seemed to have run out of ideas in defense. Pochettino has a lot of comfort when compared to Erik ten Hag's - there seems to be a new crisis at Old Trafford when Manchester United loses, but serious questions must be asked after handling a major summer investment.

Middlesbrough's victory over Chelsea in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-finals is Michael Carrick's proudest moment of his managerial career

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 9, 2024
After the Championship team shocked Chelsea by losing 1-0 to Stamford Bridge in a fortnight, Michael Carrick praised Middlesbrough's first-leg Carabao Cup semi-final victory as the best moment of his managerial career.

Chelsea supporters are left FUMING after Moises Caicedo's 'inexcusable' attempt to stop Hayden Hackney's goal in Blues' Carabao Cup loss to Middlesbrough

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 9, 2024
In the first leg of the tie, the Championship team defeated the former European champions 1-0, giving the advantage to the second game in a fortnight's time at Stamford Bridge. Supporters of the Blues expressed their dissatisfaction with the full time whistle, with Thiago Silva coming out to face the away end, though manager Mauricio Pochettino has stated that their outrage was directed at the home fans. Hayden Hackney's goal was enough for Boro to win on the night, with the 21-year-old poking in from close range after good work out wide.

PLAYERS RATINGS: Cole Palmer misses three good chances, while Axel Disasi struggles to recover, with FIVE Chelsea players scoring just 5/10 in the Carabao Cup semi-finals at Middlesbrough

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 9, 2024
PLAYER RATINGS: Chelsea suffered a humiliating loss to Middlesbrough in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Tuesday evening. Michael Carrick's side came out victorious after Hayden Hackney scored the only goal of the game to win Michael Carrick's side. But, how did Mail Sport rate Chelsea's performance on Tuesday night? Lewis Steele provides his verdict on how each player played.

Chelsea beat Middlesbrough 1-0 Chelsea in the Championship game of the Carabao Cup, with Cole Palmer missing a sitter as the Blues lost for their first time this season

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 9, 2024
CRAIG HOPE AT THE RIVERSIDE Michael Carrick: Michael Carrick does not like the Golden Generation comparisons. He is doing a fine job of leadership, no surprise. This week, he joked that the media never considered him a member of that group as a celebrity. Now, he is distancing himself from their managerial duties, which are mainly on his own. Middlesbrough will be a big success after a one-goal lead, and will travel to Stamford Bridge in a fortnight. Carrick is just one game away from winning a seat at Wembley in his first full season in the dugout.

Michael Carrick can strike a blow for 'Golden Generation' (although it's not his favourite tag!)by becoming first manager to lift silverware in England

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 8, 2024
The Golden Generation have never lifted silverware as England's treasurers. Michael Carrick is the only one who will make a change this season, as it stands. 'You put me in that bracket now, do you?I never used to be as a player!' Even with a smile, the Middlesbrough chief questioned his appointment alongside Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, and Wayne Rooney. At least when it comes to managerial success, it may not be the worst thing if he wants to distance himself from his former colleagues. Not that he is making comparisons or otherwise.

In Chelsea's FA Cup victory over Preston, Michael Golding has an uncomfortable handshake with his fourth official

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 6, 2024
Micheal Golding, a Chelsea boy, couldn't deny his excitement in his Blues bow and posted the moment with a wry smile from one of the match officials. In the club's 4-0 FA Cup Third Round victory over Preston, the 17-year-old midfielder made his first appearance for the club as a late replacement for Ezno Fernandez. His excitement was infectious as he waited on the touchline to enter the game alongside the match official who was holding up the numbers. The official shook Golding's hand for the first time before handing over the ball to the player to wait before going onto the pitch. Golding managed to mistook the gesture for another good luck handshake and shook it for the second time.
