After a normal gallop ended in drama, Constitution Hill, the star of National Hunt racing, casts a lot of doubt for the Cheltenham Festival. Trainer Nicky Henderson took the reigning Champion Hurdler, who has a perfect record of eight wins from eight starts, to Kempton Park on Tuesday morning for what is commonly described as a 'away day.' Henderson's proposal for Constitution Hill was to work with Sir Gino, the Triumph Hurdle's favorite, and another unheralded stablemate to place him right before his title defense in two weeks. The proposal was for the triumvirate to gallop around Kempton's all-weather track twice.

Hurdler Constitution Hill will not run until he defends his throne at Cheltenham on March 12. After testing revealed that the gelding has an infection, the possibility of running him in the Unibet International Hurdle a week later has been postponed. On Boxing Day, the decision means that unbeaten Constitution Hill will compete in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton.

Henderson said: 'He is still asleep! He plodded up and down the yard as we trotted him up and down the yard. He was as involved in what was going on as he was yesterday. Aintree is now part of the scheme. This season, there's a four-week break between the meetings. Doing anything else is pointless.'
