After a significant portion of his acceptance address at the 2023 Tony Awards was censored, theatre director Michael Arden left some viewers at home baffled. Arden, 40, had been honoured with the Best Direction of a Musical award for the acclaimed revival of Parade, as well as Best Musical Revival, when he delivered a speech to the LGBTQ community and combating anti-queer bigotry. However, his use of the rediscovered F-word sparked the censorship of CBS, who bleeped out more than just the word due to the Tony Awards' tape delay.
