After just one season due to poor ratings, Netflix cancelled comedy show Blockbuster

Following a weak first viewing hour show, Netflix will not renew its comedy series Blockbuster for a second season. According to Deadline, Netflix assigns a score to its shows based on the number of hours watched, and executives were less captivated when the show was introduced on November 3. Given that it is a comedy, it is not surprising that the episodes are about half the length of a normal drama series.

It flourished in the 1980s and 1990s, but by 2014, Blockbuster had shut down the last of its corporate owned stores. Just one in Bend, Oregon, is still on the job. And now, a new Netflix comedy is following the fictional lives of employees employed by the film rental chain's 'last remaining store'. The blockbuster, named Blockbuster, was announced on November 3, and it stars Fresh Off the Boat's Randall Park as store manager Timmy Yoon and Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Melissa Fumero as his long-time crush Eliza.

The 2022 Emmy Award nominations are finally here! J.B. Smoove and Melissa Fumero revealed a portion of this year's stacked pool of nominees on July 12th, with fan favorites including "Euphoria," "Succession," "Squid Game," and others snagging multiple nominations per year. Issa Rae received a nomination for outstanding lead actress in a comedy series, effectively ending the show's epic five-season run. In comparison, "Euphoria" received 17 total awards, including outstanding drama series and Zendaya for outstanding lead actress in a drama series. "Squid Game" made history by becoming the first non-english show to receive a nomination in the main drama category.

The 2022 Emmy Awards will be broadcast on NBC and Peacock on September 12th, as well as on a livestream on Tuesday (July 12), comedian JB Smoove and Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Melissa Fumero revealed this year's nominees. As usual, there were some awaited nominations, but there were also some surprises. Succession is leading with 25 nominations, including one for Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series starring Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong. Ted Lasso and White Lotus received a total of 20 nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. Several White Lotus actors, including Murray Bartlett, Jennifer Coolidge, and Sydney Sweeney, have received awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor and Actress for a Limited Series or Movie.
