In the 19th century, the African American entrepreneur, philanthropist, and social activist made her fortune by launching a line of haircare products for black women. The unveiling of the historic doll coincides with the Black Business Month in August. Walker was born Sarah Breedlove in Delta, Louisiana, in 1867. In 1906, she took the name of her third husband, Charles Joseph Walker, and launched Madam C.J. Walker, one of the first black haircare products. She was a key figure in the Harlem Renaissance and a founding member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). In 1919, Walker died of kidney disease at the age of 51.
