Ceramic artist Clarice Cliff whose secret romance with factory owner boss was brought to life by Phoebe Dynevor in The Colour Room is honoured by blue plaque at former home

The art deco pioneer (left) was commemorated 125 years after her birth at the flat at 20 Snow Hill in Shelton, where she lived at the height of her success. She married her boss, factory owner Colley Shorter, in 1940 after the death of his wife. The pair had engaged in a secret affair that never became the subject of gossip. Cliff was portrayed by Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor in 2021 film the Colour Room (bottom right). Shorter was depicted by Matthew Goode. The plaque was unveiled on Friday by arts and heritage minister Lord Parkinson following the return of the public memorial scheme, carried out by Historic England on behalf of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). It reads: 'Clarice Cliff 1899 - 1972 pottery designer and factory art director lived here.'

For the first time shooting his forthcoming film, Freud's Last Session, Sir Anthony Hopkins turned into Sigmund Freud. As he started to work on the Ireland film set last month with 30 extras, the actor, 85, was dressed in a khaki coat and a brown trilby hat. Donning Freud's signature round-rimmed glasses were joined by former Downton Abbey actor Matthew Goode, 45, who plays Narnia author C.S Lewis.
