Following day, reports revealed that Gulf Finance House (GFH) club directors were attempting to reinstate McDermott as boss, implying that the Cellino family (the club's prospective new owners) had no right to dismiss him. Nigel Gibbs, McDermott's Elland Road assistant, was appointed as the caretaker boss for the club's home derby against Huddersfield Town on February 1st. Following the game, the club released a statement stating that McDermott had not been suspended and that remained first team boss.

GFH maintained a 10 percent interest in the club, with minority shareholders owning 25%.
Cellino later said that if he had known that the takeover would not go well, he would not have bought the team and branded it as "...they made it difficult, they made it difficult, they made it difficult at a time when I couldn't walk away and I submitted myself to a trial, which was a disgrace...But who are they anyway?
