Massimo Boldi Career

Artistic careers

Boldi first appeared on stage as a drummer. He appeared in the club I Mimitoki before joining the more popular La pattuglia azzurra ("The Blue Patrol"), which was led by a young Claudio Lippi. He went on to be a drummer in Gino Paoli's orchestra and several other bands.

Boldi continued his drumming career at the Derby night club, which opened in 1959 as a jazz bar by Gianni Bongiovanni and his wife Angela. Enzo Jannacci, Cochi, Renato, Giorgio Gaber, Bruno Lauzi, Umberto Bindi, Gino Paoli, Walter Waldi, and Enrico Intra, the Derby Club's joint founder, were among the artists he worked with. He became a stand-up comedian at Bongiovanni's suggestion, creating characters that became famous in the club and elsewhere, after appearances on local television. Both in the Derby Club and on television, Teo Teocoli and Teo Teocoli performed as a pair in those years.

On Antenna 3, a local television station in Legnano, Boldi, and Teocoli performed "Non lo sape ma lo so" ("I didn't know, but now"), a program that was supposed to showcase a new generation of comedians. It was hosted by Beppe Recchia every Wednesday evening from 20:30 to midnight. The term derives from a Boldi catch phrase that appeared in a song he wrote with his colleagues Enzo Jannacci and Paolo Beld.

Boldi's most notable and well-known character, Massima Cipollino, would take calls from the program manager on his desk on a telephone, responding on air, "Vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvy!!!!" vs. "Oooooo Kaaaay!!!!!" says the narrator. When hanging up, he'd then break the phone. Boldi appeared in many Italian national television shows after this, but not necessarily with Teocoli.

Boldi played "Mario Vigorone," one of his most popular characters, before moving to the program A Tutto Gag, directed by Romolo Siena, in which Boldi played a Tuscan cook with the phrase "Come dite voi a Milano" from the Rai Uno program Canzonissima. "How do you say in Milan?" says the narrator. He also developed Saltimbanchi si muore, La Tappazzeria, and Fantastico 8, which were all developed under Adriano Celentano's direction. He appeared on Mediaset in Drive In, Risatissima, Grand Hotel, Sabato al circo, La strana coppia.

Boldi and Teocoli performed a parody of the Diabolic stories in Una rotonda sul mare. Boldi was the ostensibly mad thief "Diaboldik," and Teocoli played a certain "Inspector Rinko," a nod toward Inspector Ginko, the robber in the black leotard.

On Canale 5 Boldi, the actor, Sergence la notizia (1996–1997), Scherzi a partie (2002), and finally, with Lorella Cuccarini (2008), an edition of La sai l'ultima? Boldi was also given his first fictional television appearance in the series Un ciclone in famiglia, directed by Carlo Vanzina.

Cinema career

Boldi was first to be successful in Carlo Verdone's 1984 film I due carabinieri ("The two carabinieri"), followed by Scuola di ladri ("School for thieves") and Yuppies, his first major success in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Boldi portrays the typical Milan resident, bourgeois and methodical, but he is also susceptible to tachycardia. Some of his favorite phrases, such as "Bestia che dolore," were among his favorite ones.

("Damn that pain!

"), "Mi hai fatto un male pazzesco!"

("You have really hurt me!

"), "Ciao Cipollino!"

("Hi Cipollino!

"), "Vavavavavava!"

("Gogogogogo!")

and "Non lo sapessi ma lo seppi!"

("I didn't know it but I knew it!

"They have become a common catchphrase."
