Mary I of England Life

Mary I (18 February 1516 – 17 November 1558), also known as Mary Tudor, was the queen of England and Ireland from July 1553 to her death.

She is best known for her ardent attempts to reverse the English Reformation, which had begun during Henry VIII's reign.

Some of the buildings that had been removed from it in the previous two reigns are restored to the Church by the lady.

She was not able to legislate those who were robbed from the Catholic Church and monasteries at the time.

Mary had over 280 religious dissenters in the Marian persecutions, which culminated in her Protestant opponents' denunciation as "Bloody Mary." Mary was the only child of Henry VIII by his first wife, Catherine of Aragon, to live to adulthood.

Edward VI, her younger half-brother (son of Henry and Jane Seymour) succeeded their father in 1547 at the age of nine.

When Edward became mortally ill in 1553, he tried to exclude Mary from the line of succession because he expected, correctly, that the Protestant reforms that had been initiated during his reign.

Leading politicians proclaimed Lady Jane Grey as queen on her death.

Mary assembles a force in East Anglia and arrested Jane, who was later killed.

Mary was the first queen regnant of England, excluding Jane and the Empress Matilda's contentious reigns.

On his accession in 1554, Mary married Philip of Spain, becoming the queen consort of Habsburg Spain. Mary's death in 1558 was the start of Roman Catholicism in her younger half-sister and successor, Elizabeth I.
