The scene that was CUT from the 2003 Christmas film is shared by Elf's Elf actor, who explains how his 'two word' role developed into a 'crazy' 22-HOUR shoot with Will Ferrell

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 24, 2023
Will Be Buddy the Elf, an eccentric human who was raised by Santa's elves and ends up in NYC on a quest to find his biological father. Zooey Deschanel, Mary Steenburgen, and Peter Dinklage appear in the film, but the mailroom employee, who Buddy ends up getting drunk after mistaking his alcohol for syrup, is one of the most memorable characters in the festive hit.

Why We Still Love "Elf," 20 Years Later

www.popsugar.co.uk, December 8, 2023
I can't remember the first time I saw "Elf" on television. I don't think this is unusual. Often, the most popular Christmas movies are ones that appear on television the most often, and "Elf" is certainly a cable staple. But that isn't the only reason it's one of the best Christmas movies of all time. "Elf" is a magical blend of earnestness and silliness, New York City and the North Pole, as well as a group of actors who lend their considerable talents to make a classic, eminently lovable film. On Nov. 7, 2003, "Elf" was released 20 years ago. It was directed by Jon Favreau and written by David Berenbaum and tells the tale of Buddy the elf, who is not really an elf but a human. Buddy is Will Ferrell's best comeback, and it's one of his finest performances. Ferrell plays characters who aren't as smart as others, but here he does it without the cynicism and darkness that others have. Buddy isn't mocking him. Buddy is just who he is: a joking fellow who wants to share all of what being human entails with an infinite heart that he wants to share with everyone in the world, from kids he meets in the doctor's office to his gruesome mailroom coworkers.

FEMAIL unveils what became of Elf's legendary cast members, from rollercoaster love lives to tragic losses

In 2003, Elf made a comeback and became a holiday staple. Buddy the Elf (Will Ferrell) is introduced in the film after he discovers he's not quite like the others and heads north to discover his true father. Walter Hobbs, the no-nonsense businessman who is trying to integrate into the modern world, is his true father (James Caan). Walter is his true father, according to his reluctant husband Emily (Mary Steenburgen) and son Michael (Daniel Tay). Since Elf's holiday film took over the world by storm, a lot has happened.

BRIAN VINER: The first Book Club was a sloppy mess, and this one is even worse

www.dailymail.co.uk, May 12, 2023
The 2018 film Book Club looked like a good book dropped in a swimming pond, in the sense that it must have appeared on paper before transforming into a bloated mess. It starred four friends, played by Jane Fonda, Diane Keaton, Candice Bergen, and Mary Steenburgen, whose monthly book club in Los Angeles had been meeting for 30 years, and E.L. James' Fifty Shades Of Grey trilogy brought their stalemate-based love lives back to life. It might have been amusing to see such a chic cast (along with Don Johnson and Andy Garcia). In fact, it was dismal: full of laboured doubleentendres that, oh, E.L. James, may have made Sid James wince. Book Club: The Next Chapter, directed by Bill Holderman's first film, with Erin Simms as his co-writer, is about half as amusing as walking through the pouring rain to Waterstones only to find it closed. It is likely that this will be another hit.
