Mary Elizabeth McDonough (born May 4, 1961), also known as Mary Beth McDonough, is an American actress and writer best known for her appearances on The Waltons from 1972 to 1981.

Early life

McDonough was born in Los Angeles, California, on May 4, 1961, the third of four children to Lawrence and Elizabeth (née Murray) McDonough. Her father was an Irish American ex-marine from Nebraska, and her mother was from La Junta, Colorado. McDonough was raised Catholic in what she referred to as a working-class family. She and her siblings were born in Northridge and attended Our Lady of Lourdes School in Los Angeles. McDonough was an avid theater student and became interested in acting in elementary school.

Personal life

McDonough suffers from lupus erythematosus, which she explained on her In the Know plastic surgery awareness website stems from her breast implants' leakage of silicone.

Career

McDonough began her acting career as a child actor in the film The Waltons, playing Erin Walton, a role she would reprise in 1981, until the series's conclusion. Melissa Sue Anderson co-starred in the television horror film Midnight Offerings (1981), making her debut in the action film Lovely But Deadly (1981). McDonough was later cast in the slasher film Mortuary (1983), opposite Lynda Day George and Bill Paxton. Erin Walton in the Waltons television reunion films A Wedding on Walton's Peak, Mother's Day on Walton's Mountain, and A Day for Thanks on Walton's Peak (all released in 1982). She appeared in the dark comedy Funland about an unhinged amusement park operator in 1987.

Erin Walton appeared in three Waltons films in the 1990s: A Walton Thanksgiving Reunion (1993), A Walton Wedding (1995), and A Walton Easter (1997).

She returned to television acting in the 2000s, appearing on Boston Legal and The New Adventures of Old Christine (2006–2009). McDonough was a radio presenter on international and syndicated television shows, including Get Focused Radio with Kate Hennessy. McDougall M.D., a television show, can be seen on the internet. On the TBN network, as part of the programming.

McDonough's book Christmas on Honeysuckle Lane was turned into a Hallmark Channel film starring Alicia Witt and Colin Ferguson in 2018. McDonough appeared in the film for a minor supporting role.
