He says he remembers the first single he ever bought - Marvin Gaye's 'Let's Get It On', picked up from a record shop in Suriname, from where his father emigrated to the Netherlands - and can't quite feel the same about Taylor Swift, when she, a significant new presence in NFL, sometimes gravitates into Mail Sport's digital realm. 'I have a subscription. I read the Daily Mail every day. The only thing that I didn't understand is what has Taylor Swift has to do with the sports pages?' he asks. 'Can you just put it where it belongs and I can read my sport?!!'

On his first Christmas album, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and Nat King Cole are all sorting the crackers from the turkeys. Porter's baritone shines on Wonder's Someday At Christmas and Gaye's Purple Snowflakes, but the cat in the hat is at his elegant best on Cole's Cradle In Bethlehem and What Are You Doing New Year's Eve? Samara Joy competes in a duet. Amid the soul and swing standards, he sings a handful of originals: the title track is a touching eulogy to his late mother, but there's a little too much festive cheese on the sentimental Heart For Christmas

Van Houten's chance to experience such technological advancements - and much more - was granted on parole from a California prison on Tuesday. The former heroin-addled hippy and high school 'homecoming princess' had languished in jail for her role in homicide so tragic that many Americans, including successive California governors, have maintained that none of the principal offenders should ever be released. Van Houten, a 73-year-old woman from suburban Los Angeles, was a lonely and physically weakened 19-year-old, and she fell completely under his malevolent spell.

www.popsugar.co.uk, June 15, 2023
Sumeke Rainey, West's high school crush, was still dating him when he first began dating him. Her father was the one who gifted West with a box of Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, and Aretha Franklin records, which he later sampled on his 2004 debut album, "The College Dropout." When a girl asks West if he knows Kweli, it's actually Sumeke's voice. In "Never Let Me Down," he raps about the promise he made to her father on his deathbed that he'd eventually marry her: "Nothing sad" as the day her girl's father passed away "I promise to marry your daughter." Their friendship didn't last, and he speculated at the reasons for "Late Registration"'s "Touch the Sky." "I sent the plane tickets right away, but when she decided to kick it, it became different," he says. "I cheated on, sheets. I skeeted on, and I couldn't keep it at home." I thought I needed a Nia Long." The exact date of their breakup is uncertain, but it is likely that it occurred in the late 1990s.
