Austria forward Marko Arnautovic is set to play in his third European Championship this summer at the age of 35, and his side could hardly have been given a tougher opening task. On Monday night, Ralf Rangnick's men will take on France, a team much fancied by many to go all the way in Germany, in their first Euro 2024 match. Arnautovic could be left to lead the line against the formidable French as Austria look to spring an upset, and they will need their talisman at his very best.

More than 220 clubs are represented at Euro 2024 - and Manchester City and Inter Milan top the charts in terms of call-ups. Thirteen players from both clubs made their nation's final squads for the tournament, which kicked off last night in Germany. Premier League champions Manchester City's players come from seven different nations. Serie A winners Inter Milan's representatives include former Stoke City striker Marko Arnautovic who will be leading the line for Austria. Holders Italy have included four players from their domestic champions in their squad, including Nicolo Barella and Alessandro Bastoni who won Euro 2020 under former manager Roberto Mancini.

Three members of Inter Milan's league-winning team have come together to commission diamond rings for the special occasion. Last month, the club won their 20th Serie A title by beating AC Milan in a bad-tempered derby clash, and they went on to finish the season 19 points clear of their crosstown rivals.  Now the whole team will get specially-commissioned jewellery following the idea of Marko Arnautovic, Marcus Thuram and Hakan Calhanoglu.

Everton's inability to sign a striker during the transfer window is attributing to many people involved in the club's football operations. Jose Mourinho wanted him at Manchester United, but the Red Devils were unable to afford a contract after signing Paul Pogba for a record price, according to Marko Arnautovic. Marko Arnautovic's handler has claimed that the Austrian striker was the one to refuse a transfer to Manchester United this summer rather than the club ending any potential contract. United saw Arnautovic as a cheaper alternative to raise their attack. Following having their initial £7.5 million bid rejected, Bologna's demands were previously announced. On Friday, the 22-year-old completed his £60 million move from Real Sociedad to St James' Park, paying the Magpies a club-record fee. According to Mundo Deportivo, it has been reported that he could have migrated to United instead, but his supporters advised that he turned down their advances. In his first transfer window in the dugout, Erik ten Hag has been able to recruit five new signings, including Ajax duo Antony and Lisandro Martinez, as well as serial Champions League champion Casemiro. However, bringing in a new No9 has been difficult.

Ten Hag sent the 20-year-old striker a text to see if he'd be interested in moving to Old Trafford, but he turned down his former boss's offer of a £14.7 million transfer back to de Godenzonen from RB Leipzig. Brobbey has been in fine form for Ajax this season, scoring and assisting from the bench in his third game against Fortuna Sittard, and he has since started the Amsterdam club's following two games. "I absolutely wanted to go to Ajax," Brobbey told Dutch publication Voetbal International. Erik also wanted to work with me, texted once if I were interested in it, but I thanked him generously. I wanted to go back [to Ajax] and visit Ajax. It wasn't finished, or even started by my friends here, Ajax's playing style. I have to first succeed as a striker of Ajax. That's also how the first six months felt, when I played here on a rented basis. I had the feeling afterwards: I must go back.'

Both Napoli and Inter Milan's second weekend of Serie A season saw them get off to a soaring start in home with emphatic victories. However, defending champions AC Milan lost their first points in a draw at Atalanta, while newly promoted Lecce and Monza's still look a little troubling.
