According to evidence, the desire for sugar, chronic vomiting, suffering head injuries, and being overweight in childhood all contribute to dementia in later life. Scientists believe this is because they promote the development of harmful proteins in the brain related to the disease. Being less mobile also means less blood flow throughout the brain, which may lead to less proteins being removed. Scientists were keen to point out that although these are risk factors, not every child who has them will suffer with dementia.
