How Barbara Hulanicki, the founder of Biba, ignited a 60s fashion revival in 'grey London,' with a little help from Twiggy, and the British brand's retro pieces now sell for thousands on preloved websites

At the unveiling of a new exhibition at London's Fashion & Textile Museum this week, fashion icon Hulanicki, who is now 87 and living in Miami, was joined by Twiggy, 74, one of Biba's most successful models. With its earthy dresses, bold prints, and cosmetics collection, the brand dominated London's fashion scene in the Sixties, all of which sold like hot cakes. With a burgeoning preloved industry, shoppers are still able to pay for vintage clothing from the brand. (Pictured from left: Twiggy and Barbara Hulanicki in the 1970s, London this week.) Prince Andrew has suffered once more as he fails to receive an award bestowed on Prince Edward by the King

EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: Another setback for Andrew as the King makes Edward a Knight of the Thistle, breaking with the history of the late Queen's younger sons receiving high accolades in tandem. Both were knights of the Garter in 2006, and Knights Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order in 2011 was established. (GCVO). Edward is now playing a more central role in the shrinking royal family, but Andrew isn't allowed to wear the ones he wears.

ELIZABETH WINDER takes a look at the groupies who made The Rolling Stones

www.dailymail.co.uk, July 15, 2023
ELIZABETH WINDER: You could tell she was different from the rest of the Rolling Stones groupies. When she returned to Munich in 1965, she was nothing like the normal Swing Sixties models - all knee socks, babydoll dresses, heavy eyeliner, and thick mascara. Everything about her suggested experience, from her difficult-to-place accent to her hand-made leather gladiator sandals. Her first words were perhaps not surprising in the context of the Sixties. 'Want to smoke a joint?' She begged the band for help. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were suspiciously at her. They'd never done drugs before. The only coke they'd had was mixed with rum. Brian Jones was seen in the corner. She wondered at him. 'Yes,' he replied. Let's do that.' It's been back to the hotel.' The woman followed the Stones to Berlin the next day. Their tours were in girl-free zones, but here was Brian Flanagan flaunting his bewitching new love: Anita Pallenberg, the hedonistic, pretty, multi-lingual, 23-year-old German/Italian model and actress. JANE GREEN claims that getting a snake tattoo at 54 shows that her inner rebel is not dead, and that she is not dead yet

www.dailymail.co.uk, November 23, 2022
JANE GREEN: The tattoo I got at 25 was a point of shame for many years. I'd love to put it down to a drunken mistake, but I was stone-cold sober, trotting down London's Portobello Road with my friend, who begged me to get one as we passed a tattoo parody. She was joking, but the task was beyond reach, and I had never been one to turn down a challenge. At the time, I had a thing for dolphins. I'd been to Dingle Bay, Ireland, and I'd written a post about swimming with the infamous dolphin that lived there. As a huge shadow swam below me, it wasn't so much swimming as me being completely afraid. The dolphin and I met face-to-face the next day in shallower waters, and I was struck by its extreme kindness and compassion in its eyes.
