Career
Manuel Turizo grew up in Monterre, Colombia, and started playing guitar at the age of 13. When Turizo was born, his parents gave him a guitar and microphone, but his older brother Julian "would not be jealous" of the newborn Manuel's care. Turizo tried to play his brother's guitar but discovered he didn't have the talent for it, and so began to develop his singing voice. His initial aim was to be a veterinarian, but after taking singing lessons with a Cuban music instructor, he decided to pursue music as a profession. He sang as a child while his brother sang along with their favorite songs. Manuel began writing songs while his brother completed his post-graduate degree in Medellin.
He is best known for his hit song "Una Lady Como T" (2016), which earned him a lot of attention in Latin America; the music video for the song has over 1.4 billion views on YouTube as of June 2020. "Una Lady Como T" was streamed more than 235 million times on Spotify within a year of its debut. "Bésame" (2017), in which he collaborated with Puerto Rican reggaeton singer Valentino, was followed by this success. Billboard eventually included Turizo in the magazine's list of "10 Latin Artists To Watch in 2018" following his success.
Turizo's debut on the single "Vaina Loca" in September 2018 became his first Billboard Hot 100-charting hit. The song peaked at number 94 and remained on the charts for two weeks. He collaborated with Mau y Ricky on the single "Desconocidos" in October 2018. In March 2019, his album "Sola" became the first top-one song on the Billboard Latin Airplay chart.
