Lee worked as a seamstress in New York. She was introduced to the work movement and realized her ability to influence society by speaking out. Lee wanted to be a social reformer, so she studied at the Jewish Teachers Seminary from 1921 to 22. She continued her education and attended classes at Hunter College and City College in New York until 1923.

Joseph Rappaport, a novelist who had two children, married writer Aaron Rappaport (b). 1924) and Yvette (b.1937).
