Magool (Somali: Magool, 1948 – March 19, 2004) was a Somali singer born in Somali (Somali: Magool).
Early years
Magool was born in Dhuusamareeb, the capital of the Galgaduud zone in central Somalia, to Cayr, Hawiye parents. She had five siblings.
She formed a small Mogadishu-based band in 1959, while living at the home of a cousin of her own named Mohamed Hashi. She migrated to Hargeysa, where she accompanied the latter city's version of the Mogadishu-based Waaberi group of musicians. Yusuf Haji Adan, a female singer and songwriter, dubbed her Magool (meaning "flower"), a term by which she would be widely known.
Magool returned to Mogadishu in the mid-1960s. She then married Mohamed Nur Galaal, a young general. The marriage didn't last long, but her fame soared.
