Career

Smith first came to national prominence as Pam in the 1980 film Urban Cowboy. She appeared in the films 2010 (1984), a space Odyssey sequel, and All of Me (1984), a Steve Martin-Lily Tomlin comedy, later co-starring Diane Abbott. Pauline Kael wrote in The New Yorker that Smith was a "talented and charming brunette" who knows how to make guile and bitchery comedic, as well as a Lily Tomlin's addictive charge. In the early 1980s, she appeared in numerous television films, including Pray TV, Rehearsal for Murder, and Deadly Intentions. In the 1983 television miniseries Sadat, Jehan Sadat, wife of Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, was the main protagonist, and Dorothy Ernie Kovacs played Between the Laughter.

Tracy Whitney appeared in If Tomorrow Comes, a 1987 television miniseries based on the Sidney Sheldon book of the same name. She costarred in films including Funny Farm (1988) opposite Chevy Chase and The Super (1991) with Joe Pesci; the 1990 TV films The Plot to Kill Hitler and the Jackal; and the 1990 miniseries The Kennedys of Massachusetts.
