Career
Smith first came to national prominence as Pam in the 1980 film Urban Cowboy. She appeared in the films 2010 (1984), a space Odyssey sequel, and All of Me (1984), a Steve Martin-Lily Tomlin comedy, later co-starring Diane Abbott. Pauline Kael wrote in The New Yorker that Smith was a "talented and charming brunette" who knows how to make guile and bitchery comedic, as well as a Lily Tomlin's addictive charge.
