Lourdes Stephen (born May 18, 1976) is a Dominican journalist and television host.
She is best known for her role as the anchor and moderator of Sal y Pimienta, a Univision show.
Stephen was a national correspondent for the Univision Network for eight years. Stephen presented La Gran Noche del Amor and El Gran Final del Amor as well as "Despierta América" as co-host, alongside Don Francisco.
In Las Vegas in 2010, she appeared at the Latin Grammy Awards.
Early life
Lourdes Stephen was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, where she earned her Public Relations degree from the Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE).
Stephen was the anchor for Noticiero TVC and wrote her column for El Siglo newspaper before moving to the United States. She earned her master's degree in journalism from Boston University after settling in the United States.
Career
Stephen began Univision in 2003 and was based in New York City. She had the opportunity to cover events of national interest relating to the country's past and culture, including the anniversaries of the September 11 attacks, President Ronald Reagan's funeral in June 2004, and singer Celia Cruz's death in July 2003. In addition, she covered other events such as the blackout in New York on August 2003, the staten Island Ferry crash in October 2003, and Hurricane Rita in September 2005.
Stephen moved to Miami in 2006, where she covered the FIFA World Cup from Germany and the 2010 Gubernatorial Elections in Puerto Rico in addition to focusing on research on political, socioeconomic, and immigrant topics. Stephen has interviewed politicians and celebrities, including former Gov. John Kerry, throughout her career. George Pataki, Donald Trump, Sammy Sosa, Alex Rodrigue, Penélope Cruz, and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Among other things, she gained interviews with President Leonel Fernández and the serial murderer identified as "The Zodiac Killer." Stephen was one of the judges for the competition show on Galavisión titled Misión Reportar, and he also served on the Emmy Awards' judging panel for the category "News and Documentary."
In 2007, Dominican President Fernández honoured her with the "National Youth Award" for her efforts in the Dominican Republic. Stephen was named "Best New York Correspondent" by the newspaper El Element in 2001, and he was also shortlisted for the "Dennis Kauff Memorial Award."
