The other vehicle's still-at-large driver started to accelerate and pull up alongside the group before firing multiple shots across the driver's side. Wilson and one of the passengers were shot, but the shooter, who was described as a black male in his mid-20s, continued to drive south off the highway and away from the scene. Wilson's last act, when he was struck in the heart, was safely pulling over to the shoulder of the road, an act that they said probably saved not only those in the car but also other vehicles on the 'tight' freeway that night.
