In Macbeth, a theatregoer watching Ralph Fiennes and Indira Varma describes how she fainted and broke her leg

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 14, 2023
Louise Barnes (left), 67, was enjoying a performance starring the Hollywood celebrities when she suddenly felt lightheaded and collapsed into the aisles. Macbeth is a notoriously bad play, and actors who appear in it use the phrase "break a leg" to shrug off the rumination and any other ill fortune when performing. Louise wrote MailOnline: "Everybody knows about Macbeth's curse, and it definitely struck me.' I know actors are told to break a leg, but audience members aren't supposed to do so.' A performance of the Shakespeare play at The Depot, Liverpool, Merseyside, had to be halted twice when two different theatregoers had medical problems during the same evening. Louise is recalling the evening of November 21, 2001: I loved Macbeth as a child and had seen it a few times, but the Liverpool performance was particularly interesting. It was a packed auditorium and it was hot.'
