Louis van Amstel Life

Louis van Amstel (born June 23, 1972) is a Dutch-American ballroom dancer, studio dancer, and choreographer who appears on the U.S. reality television show Dancing with the Stars.

He is the creator of the well-known dance fitness software LaBlast.

Early life

Louis van Amstel was born in Amsterdam; his grandparents, who were competitive ballroom dancers, were born there. He began dancing at ten years old and gained international recognition at the age of 15. At 16, he dropped school to pursue dancing full-time.

Personal life

Van Amstel is openly gay. However, he does not use the term "gay" specifically because he does not want to be stigmatized. Joshua Lancaster, Van Amstel's long-time boyfriend, was married in Sundance, Utah, on January 8, 2017. They have two adopted sons, Daniel and Jonathan.

Van Amstel made news when he revealed that a substitute teacher shamed his son for having two gay parents and subjected his fifth-grade class to a 10-minute anti-gay lecture in November. The teacher was dismissed immediately by the school.

Van Amstel and Fryer took fourth place in the Worlds 10 Dance Championship.

Van Amstel and Fryer won the national championships for the second time in 1991 and then finished fourth in all major championships. Van Amstel decided he wanted to quit playing for a year and split his relationship with Fryer for the first time a year. The partnership was revived in 1994, and Van Amstel and Fryer went on to win three world Latin Dance championship gold medals in 1994, 1995, and 1996.

Van Amstel, a 1997 graduate of competitive ballroom dancing, migrated to New York City in July 1999 and became an American citizen. He and partner Karina Smirnoff won the national championship in 2000, and they returned to competitive dancing together.

In early 2005, Van Amstel appeared on Dancing with the Stars for season one. He was partnered with Trista Sutter but they were the first to be banned from the tournament. He was partnered with hostess Lisa Rinna in the show's second season, with whom he reached fourth place.

Van Amstel returned from season three and was partnered with High School Musical artist Monique Coleman. Their Cha-Cha-Cha is a performance that is based on Van Amstel's only 10s of Dancing With The Stars, which will continue for many seasons to come. They made it to the semi-finals, but they were disqualified, resulting in a fourth-place finish. He did not take part in the fourth season due to all the females being taller than him, but he did continue to act as both a performer and choreographer throughout the season and season five.

He returned to season six as an actor, businesswoman, and spouse of Elvis Presley Priscilla Presley. The couple made it to the fifth week of their lives but were disqualified, resulting in an eighth-place finish.

The couple made it to the seventh week of their seventh week but were unable to win, resulting in a sixth-place finish. Wilkinson wrote Being Kendra, a book in which she and van Amstel feud frequently and that she called her dyslexic and learning disabled. Van Amstel denied the remarks, calling her book "twisted." Despite this, Van Amstel made two appearances on Wilkinson's reality, with Kendra and Kendra on top, though Wilkinson described them as "awkward."

Van Amstel is back for season 15 of Dancing with the Stars, the All Stars season, and he was partnered with former contestant Sabrina Bryan. The pair scored their first flawless 30 of the season in the sixth week of the season. After nine seasons on Dancing with the Stars, this was also Van Amstel's first perfect score ever. Despite being at the top of the leaderboard, the couple made it to the sixth week of the year, but were disqualified, resulting in an eighth-place finish. This week was also the week when Bryan was unexpectedly dropped in her rookie season. In Week 8, Kelly Monaco and her partner Val Chmerkovskiy selected Van Amstel to be their partner in their trio dance.

Van Amstel was not asked back for season 16 of Dancing with the Stars.

After a 5-year absence, he was announced as a pro for season 21 on September 2, 2015. Paula Deen, a celebrity chef, was paired with him. They were disqualified on week 6 of competition and finished in 9th place.

He also choreographed and appeared on numerous television shows, including The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, Hannah Montana, and All My Children.

Former American Idol contestants such as David Hernandez and Carly Smithson appeared on the program. Ballroom With A Twist has appeared in theaters around the country. Van Amstel is no longer associated with the show.

On season 5 of So You Think You Can Dance, he choreographed seven dances. At the Kodak theater in Hollywood, three of the seven dances made it to the finale and were selected as the judges' top picks. In seasons 6, 7, 8, and 8, he continued choreographing.
