Raye Rewrites Her Story "My 21st Century Blues" is a film by Raye Rewrites Her Story

www.mtv.com, February 3, 2023
The pop-turned-R&B starlet Raye, who appeared in the dressing room of Glasgow's OVO Hydro arena, is poised to discuss her almost decade-long stay here. The introduction of My 21st Century Blues, released today (February 3), fills her with a mix of apathy and admiration, the experience of a woman who admits to her past abuse but who has recovered enough to "fully say her shit on it." Raye's "everything" is involved in this program, according to MTV News. "The dim and brilliant, and sexy and ugly" are among the things that have been described. But before Raye was willing (and able) to reveal her many complicated truths, she was navigating life as Rachel Keen, a born Londoner and the oldest of three siblings in a Ghanaian-Swiss-British family's growing up. Louis Armstrong, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, and Etta James, all of whom soundtracked a childhood spent with her grandmother, at an early age. Nonetheless, it was the compelling lyrics she encountered in Alicia Keys and Jill Scott's work that prompted her to pick up the pen for the first time. She started writing her first songs at just 7 years old, the first of which was inspired by an encounter with a man who was experiencing homelessness in her neighborhood. Though she teases that her voice sounded like "a strangled rat" at the time, she knew that her only path forward was to become an artist even though she teased her that it was to be an artist. "It's all about how do I get there," she says.

The two-year-old busker appears to be perfectly still just a few feet in front of a 'talent' busker who is playing electric guitar as some people pass by without acknowledging him.

According to a report, micro-delays in musical timing have enhanced listeners' understanding of'swing' in jazz

www.dailymail.co.uk, October 6, 2022
If it hasn't got that swing, it doesn't mean anything, but jazz players haven't been able to articulate what'swing' is. Scientists at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization in Germany claim to have found out, after their study found that the rhythm is the result of micro-delays in musical timing. Swing is usually added to a piece of music when quavers - notes that are an eighth of the duration of a whole note - are played with different lengths. To see if timing changes affected their perception of the swing, the researchers performed manipulative pieces of music to jazz musicians to see if shifts in timing changed their interpretation of it. When the notes on beat one and three were postponed by 30 milliseconds, the musicians were 7.48 times more likely to believe the music was having more swing. However, the microtiming inconsistency was so small that they were imperceptible to professional jazz players, who told them not to use them unconsciously.

www.dailymail.co.uk, September 2, 2022
ADRIAN THRILLS: Keane's debut album, Hopes And Fears, in 2004, was one of the few bands to sing of youth as well as Keane. The Sussex company framed their salad days on a track like Somewhere We Know and Everybody's Changing, launching a career that saw their first five LPs top the UK charts. Capturing the mood swings of a swollen yet unbowed forty-something is less glamorous, but it's what Tom Chaplin is trying to do on his new solo album, Midpoint. The singer, 43, came to a close when Keane's Cause And Effect tour was cancelled due to the pandemic, and he began writing songs summing up his middle-age thoughts.
