Louis Rodman Whitaker Jr. (born May 12, 1957) referred to as "Sweet Lou" in American baseball second basemans, who competed for the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1977 to 1995.
In 1978, he received the American League Rookie of the Year Award and was a five-time MLB All-Star in his career.

Early life
Whitaker was born in Brooklyn, New York City, in 1957. Marion Arline Williams, his mother, moved to Martinsville, Virginia, in the late 1950s. Whitaker's mother and grandmother raised him in Martinsville. Whitaker said, "He's never done anything for me" when he was asked about his father in 1979. I don't hate him.
