Playing career

Pause played soccer at the University of North Carolina from 2000 to 2002 after attending Jordan High School in Durham, North Carolina. Pause signed a Project-40 deal with MLS following a 2002 season in which he co-captained the Tar Heels and played somewhere from central defense to attacking midfield due to injuries. Pause played for the Raleigh CASL Elite in the fourth division Premier Development League during the 2002 collegiate off-season.

The Fire selected Pause 24th overall in the 2003 MLS SuperDraft. He stunned many by arriving early in the season and playing 15 appearances and 15 starts for a Fire squad that lifted the MLS Supporters' Shield and the United States Open Cup. Pause played the same role in 2004 as Jesse Marsch and Chris Armas, starting 19 games and adding two assists.

After Armas' departure, Pause served mainly as the team's defensive midfielder. In a 3-2 victory over Sporting Kansas City on March 26, 2011, he made his 200th appearance for the Fire.

Pause saw a decrease in playing time in 2013 with the additions of Arévalo Ros and Jeff Larentowicz, who appeared in only 15 games and began 11 of them. Pause was made available in the 2013 MLS Re-Entry Draft, but the club later agreed to a new one ahead of the 2014 season.

Logan Pause retired at the end of the 2014 MLS season. He has played for the Chicago Fire for the entire 12-year career.

Pause, announced on November 3, 2014, and that his Vice President of the Chicago Fire Soccer Club will begin his new duties as of December 1, 2014.

During Olympic qualifying, Pause played for a variety of United States youth national teams, including the Under-23's.

The United States National Team was called up to the United States National Team for the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup held in the United States, his first call up to the US full squad. Pause earned his first cap against Grenada on July 4, 2009, while still giving Robbie Rogers' assist on his goal.

Coaching career

Pause was named Head Coach for Orange County SC in the USL Championship in 2017. The 2017 USL Season, Pause, and OCSC parted ways, with announcing in November 2017.

Pause became Chicago FC United's head coach in 2019.
