When members of the Westboro Baptist Church planned to protest against a show she attended on May 20, 2011, in Topeka, Kansas, she pledged $1,000 to Gay Men's Health Crisis (the same charity she supported during The Celebrity Apprenticeship). After an initial count of 44 protesters, she rounded the donation to a much larger amount, citing the WBC's donation as "made possible by the WBC."
Early life and journalism career

Lampanelli attended Roman Catholic schools, studied journalism at Boston College and Syracuse University, and attended Harvard's Radcliffe Publishing Course.
She served as a copy editor at Popular Mechanics and as an assist at Rolling Stone. "She was also a fact checker and the first chief of inquiry for Spy magazine; a book about Spy describes her as "your average decked-out-heavy-head-next-door." "I was a genuine journalist for Rolling Stone, Spy, Hit Parader," Lampanelli said later in Maxim Magazine Online. I talked to those fuckin' hair bands, Cinderella, Slaughter.
