Early life
Roache was born in Manchester, England, and the son of Coronation Street actor William Roache and actress Anna Cropper. Roache was educated at Bishop Luffa School in Chichester, West Sussex, and at Colling School in Colwyn Bay in north Wales. He studied acting at the Central School of Speech and Drama. Rosalind Bennett was married in 2002 in Malvern Hills, Worcestershire. They have no children.
Career
Roache appeared in Coronation Street in 1975 as Peter Barlow, the son of his father's character Ken Barlow. Roache is also a long-serving member of the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Roache began working in film during the 1990s while still being active in television and on stage. He received acclaim in 1994 for his key part in Antonia Bird's Priesthood. In Batman Begins (2005), he went on to star Helena Bonham Carter in the 1997 film The Wings of the Dove and to play Thomas Wayne, the father of Batman. Michael Cutter played Executive Assistant District Attorney Michael Cutter in two American series, Law & Order (2008–2010) and Special Victims Unit (2011–2012).
In June 2010, it was confirmed that he and his father, William Roache, would return to play Laurence Cunningham together in Coronation Street. He appeared in the HBO pilot The Miraculous Year in July 2010.
