Miami Grand Prix weekend is officially up and running after Formula One stars took to the track for the first time in a practice session on Friday. The likes of Lewis Hamilton , Charles Leclerc and reigning champion Max Verstappen went through the gears at the Miami International Autodrome two days out from Sunday's race, with the latter recording the fastest time at 1:28:595. McLaren's Oscar Piastri, Ferrari's Carlos Sainz, Mercedes' George Russell and Aston Martin's Lance Stroll made up the rest of the top five.

JONATHAN MCEVOY: Lewis Hamilton has revealed he 'very much' wants to work with design guru Adrian Newey at Ferrari next season. The positivity of Hamilton's comments indicated that a deal to sign Newey is firmly in Ferrari's thoughts, and, probably, even further nearer completion. With Newey, 65, due to leave Red Bull next year, Hamilton was asked if he wanted to link. 'Very much,' he responded before adding: 'Adrian Newey has got such a great history and track record and he has done an amazing job throughout his career. With the knowledge he has he would be an amazing addition.'

The Formula One circus makes its next stop in sunny Florida this week for the Miami Grand Prix. This will be the third time this race has been run - with the previous two races dominated by Red Bull Racing. Max Verstappen, who won both races, is back in Miami with the hopes of a three-peat on his mind.

'Italians are all about romance and spaghetti, and on their own that's not enough,' he rasped in his typically forthright manner that would have the woke commissars reaching for smelling salts. Which brings us to the subject of Lewis Hamilton and Formula One's all-time supreme designer. We know that Hamilton is joining the Scuderia next year, and we suspect Newey is at the very least contemplating doing the same, his departure from Red Bull now having been confirmed. He is being released early from his contract and has the freedom to guide a new team's development in light of the incoming 2026 regulation revamp, the details of which will be out later this year.

Lewis Hamilton made a quick pit stop in New York City this week before making his way to Florida for the upcoming Miami Grand Prix. In footage shared by Formula 1 on social media, Hamilton could be seen driving his Mercedes car down the city's famous Fifth Avenue and doing a donut as fans packed the streets to get a glimpse of the seven-time champion. His quick whizz past the Empire State Building was to celebrate Mercedes' partnership with WhatsApp, after they combined with the messaging giants to produce a new race-car emoji.

Lewis Hamilton showed off his quirky sense of style as he attended an event to promote his non-alcoholic tequila in Miami on Wednesday.  The F1 driver, 39, opted for a tyically quirkly look for the outing as he sported a sleeveless denim top with matching loose-fitting jeans. Showing off his arm tattoos, Lewis also sported a pair of black shoes  as he mixed and mingled with his guests.

That deal has yet to be done, but it is understood that Newey, 65, is wanted by Ferrari to act as their 'super consultant'. He currently earns £15million a year at Red Bull and could double his salary with the potential switch. The development is a blow to the world championship team and embattled boss Christian Horner, the team principal who brought Newey from McLaren to Red Bull nearly 20 years ago. They have since won seven drivers' titles in two stints, through Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen.

Mercedes are reportedly preparing a staggering world record offer to Max Verstappen in a bid to lure the three-time world champion away from Red Bull.  Verstappen's is currently on a £40million-a-year deal with Red Bull, with the Dutchman tied to the team until 2028. There has been speculation over his future after Christian Horner was accused of sexual harassment and controlling behaviour by a female employee. The Red Bull team principal, who has always denied the allegations, was later cleared in an internal inquiry.

A Red Bull supremo is reportedly set to leave the team and will announce his decision soon. He has has informed Red Bull that he wants to move on.

The new Tesla Model Performance model will accelerate from 0 to 60mph in 2.9 seconds. It'll cost £59,990 and is available to order now. Deliveries are expected in the summer. The Performance variant follows on from the recently updated Model 3 - it had a facelift in 2023 - joining the Rear-Wheel Drive and Long Range models to complete Model 3 offerings.

HENRY CLARK: Red Bull's Max Verstappen strolled to a comfortable win in the Chinese Grand Prix.  The Dutchman took a comfortable victory despite a mid-race safety car, as Lando Norris beat the other Red Bull of Sergio Perez to take second. The Ferrari pair of Charles Leclerc, in fourth, and Carlos Sainz rounded out the top five, holding off Mercedes driver George Russell and Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin in sixth and seventh, respectively. 

Both Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff has said there was 'something to come' from Mercedes after another disappointing outing at the Chinese GP. Hamilton started 18th on the grid after qualifying, and rose to finish ninth in the race, which was won by Red Bull's Max Verstappen.  After the race, he said: 'I'm grateful to get into the points. I didn't expect a lot more this weekend.'

On Saturday morning there was a smile the size of the Huangpu etched across Lewis Hamilton's face after he claimed second in the first sprint race of the season in Shanghai. A moment of sweet relief amidst a season of setbacks for Mercedes and Hamilton. A short while later and Hamilton was still, somehow, able to muster a grin.

HENRY CLARK IN SHANGHAI: The opening sprint race of the season proved to be a rather welcome reminder of the good old days for Lewis Hamilton in Shanghai. Days where he fought tooth and nail for race wins, rather than against his own car as he has been in recent seasons with this misfiring Mercedes of his. The chance to claim the chequered flag for the first time in 868 days was eventually snatched away from him in emphatic fashion by Max Verstappen after the Red Bull driver stormed to victory, adding another eight valuable championship points to his tally.

Toto Wolff admitted that the right call was made to U-turn a deleted lap time and give Lando Norris pole position for Saturday's Sprint Race in Shanghai. The McLaren driver conquered the treacherous conditions in China to claim pole for the first Sprint Race of the season, just ahead of Lewis Hamilton. Norris' pole-setting time was initially wiped from the timesheets after he was adjudged to have exceeded track limits, but stewards quickly reversed their decision because the Brit hit some gravel, which slowed him down.

Lando Norris proved he is the man for all seasons by conquering a treacherous Shanghai International Circuit to claim pole for the first Sprint Race of the season on Saturday. As his competitors struggled to keep their cars on the straight and narrow around a track which quickly became an ice rink following a heavy downpour late into the second qualifying session, Norris showed great skill and composure to perfect the equilibrium of risk and reward and safely shepherd his McLaren to pole.

HENRY CLARK IN SHANGHAI: Red Bull boss Christian Horner insists the team won't be rushed into finalising Max Verstappen's team-mate for 2025 as the silly season of the Formula One drivers market rumbles on. There has been strong speculation over the future of Sergio Perez, whose contract with the Austrian outfit expires at the end of the season, with Carlos Sainz one of many names being linked with the team. That move seems unlikely according to Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko, who told reporters yesterday that Audi, who will join the sport in 2026, have made a 'very lucrative offer' for the in-demand Spaniard. Sainz is being replaced at Ferrari by Lewis Hamilton at the end of the season.

Aston Martin's Lance Stroll was the surprise name at the top of the leaderboard in the sole practice session for this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix, which was disrupted by a fire at the side of the track. Stroll finished 0.327 seconds clear of McLaren driver Oscar Piastri at the Shanghai International Circuit, with championship leader Max Verstappen third. However, practice was suspended with just 15 minutes on the clock after a patch of grass at turn seven caught fire.

Max Verstappen is the overwhelming favourite to make it four wins out of five in the 2024 F1 season with victory at the Chinese Grand Prix. Verstappen is chasing a fourth world championship in a row and looks well on course for that after a stunning start to the campaign, which was only disrupted by his early retirement in Australia. The Dutchman has been on pole position for every race and he is priced at 1/6 with Sky Bet to win again in China.

POLE POSITION - JONATHAN MCEVOY: Lewis Hamilton is one paranoiac individual. He earns £50million a year and is due to join Ferrari for a lot more next season (perhaps £70m), yet he believes the world is against him. It may be an element of what motivates him, but it was strange to hear his remarks on Thursday ahead of this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix in which he said there were those 'talking s***' about his decision to leave Mercedes for the Scuderia.
