Laurent Garnier (born 1 February 1966) also known as Choice, is a French experimental music producer and DJ.
Garnier began DJ-ing in Manchester in the late 1980s.
He had a broad stylistic palette by the next decade, with the ability to span deep house, Detroit techno, trance, and jazz.
In the early 1990s, he added production work to his schedule, as well as recording several albums.
Early influences
Garnier started serving as a waiter for the French Embassy in London in 1984. A.k.a. He started playing with DJ Nelson a.k.a. DJ Stan is a member of the French club. He stayed there for a year and a half before heading to Manchester in 1986. He began DJing in England and became burgeoning in the UK.
Career
He discovered The Haçienda in Manchester in 1987 and met Mike Pickering, the resident DJ. Garnier began DJ Pedro's fame in Chicago, and Detroit techno became very popular, and Garnier began mixing there under the name of DJ Pedro.
He went back to France in 1988 to fulfill his military obligations. He also spent some time in New York City, where he met Frankie Knuckles. Garnier returned to France in the early 1990s, heading the Wake Up Parties at the Rex Club in Paris for three years, and in Dijon from 1990 to 1994, where he appeared at Sir Henry's house. He performed in bands including Le Palace or Le Boy, DJing in rave clubs, and then progressing to recording. Garnier introduced "French Connection" and the A Bout de Souffle EP on the FNAC label, as well as the A Bout de Souffle EP. Eric Morand, a friend who had previously worked with Fnac, created the F Communications company after the company went out of business.
Shot in the Dark, his first album, was released in 1995. His second, 30th, appeared in 1997 and featured "Crispy Bacon," one of Garnier's top-selling singles. The retrospective Early Works was followed by the 30s. Garnier returned to production with Unreasonable Behaviour, which featured one of his best known songs, "The Man with the Red Face," shortly after appearing on televisions around the late 1990s.
