Early life
Since seeing a performance of Grease at the Barn Theatre, Barber was born and raised in Battle Creek, Michigan, and developed an interest in acting at the age of seven. He attended Pennfield High School, from which he graduated in 1991, and spent time in Kellogg Community College while earning his associate degree.
Personal life
Barber and his two children, Aliza, are a chef, and their two young children live in Los Angeles.
Career
Barber and Jennifer Garner met in Chicago and spent five years in The Second City improvisational comedy troupe, after a year at the Barn Theatre. He then migrated to Los Angeles and appeared in On the Spot, an improv sketch show on The WB, running for five episodes in 2003. He owes his success to Lisa Kudrow's 2005 HBO film The Comeback, in which he played Paulie G., a television writer. Bill Ponderosa, a recurring character on FX's It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, appeared in 2010. When HBO brought back The Comeback in 2014, Paulie G. played Paulie G. He appeared in episodes of How I Met Your Mother, Gilmore Girls, Californication, Monk, The Mentalist, and Grey's Anatomy.
