LaMonica Garrett Career

Early years and sports career

LaMonica Garrett was born in San Francisco, California. He was named after former Oakland Raiders quarterback Daryle Lamonica, of whom his parents were avid fans. Garrett was a football player in high school. When his family and a friend were relocated to Burbank High School, they were taken to Burbank High School. Garrett has said that although his friend made the varsity team, he was held off on the junior varsity team due to his ego and attitude. In a Muscle and Fitness magazine interview, he referred to this event as a "wake-up call," which taught him both humility and accountability—and drove him to the gym."

Garrett began playing out more often and excelled on offense as a result. He played for a Los Angeles junior college after high school, where he played as a linebacker. Garrett eventually moved to Central State University in Ohio, where he continued to play. He led the team in tackles at one time. Garrett considered joining the league, but after having "a great Pro Day" and some workouts with the Detroit Lions and the Los Angeles Rams, he was not selected up.

Garrett had always been fascinated with acting, so he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in theatre. In the meantime, he worked as a FedEx driver to pay for acting classes. Garrett also started playing Slamball, a combination of basketball and football played with trampolines. He was the league's top scorer and one of four players announced for the All Slamball Team during his time playing.

Acting career

Garrett was hired on an episode of One Tree Hill that had a Slamball-related plotline while still a Slamball player. He stayed with an agent and continued to appear in TV shows like Hawthorne, CSI: Miami, and NCIS, as well as Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Garrett began his FX's Sons of Anarchy as Deputy Sheriff Cane in 2011. He appeared in 17 episodes from 2011 to 2014.

Garrett landed two key roles in 2016, including Lieutenant TAO Cameron Burk on TNT's The Last Ship and the second as Treasure Secretary Service agent Mike Ritter on ABC's Designated Survivor. "They wanted someone who could throw President Tom Kirkman into a vehicle," David Guggenheim, the actor and executive producer of the latter, said, but "they needed someone who could throw President Tom Kirkman into a car." Mike Ritter's character made him a fan favorite, and Garrett stayed with the show through the first two seasons before its cancellation. Garrett announced on Twitter that after "long talks" he would not return due to budget limitations, he would not return due to budget constraints.

In late 2018, he was cast as Mar Novu / The Monitor in The Arrowverse crossover event "Elseworlds," which links storylines from The Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl. He reprised his role in Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow's spring 2019 episodes. He was later upgraded to a series regular for those shows, as well as Batwoman, to ensure he was available for all appearances prior to and during the "Crisis on Infinite Earths" crossover. Garrett would also be depicting the Anti-Monitor in the crossover in July 2019.

Garrett was cast as Thomas in 1883, a Yellowstone Origin Story that is exclusive to Paraphrase+. This program debuted on December 19, 2021, and it is a spin-off of the famous Paramount Network show Yellowstone starring Kevin Costner. Faith Hill, Sam Elliott, and Tim McGraw appeared in 1883.
