Barcelona reclaimed second place in LaLiga with a 2-0 home win over Real Sociedad on Monday courtesy of a Lamine Yamal first-half strike and a late Raphinha penalty. Xavi's side leapfrogged Girona to move on to 76 points, one clear of their Catalan rivals who dropped points in Friday's 2-2 draw at Alaves. Real Madrid have already secured the league title, sitting on 90 points with three games left.

Barcelona will take legal action against the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) after the controversial decision around Lamine Yamal's unawarded goal in Sunday's El Clasico clash. Barca president Joan Laporta (pictured) has already suggested the Blaugrana could pursue a replay for the tie. Real Madrid came out on top in the match at the Bernabeu after Jude Bellingham's injury time winner sent Los Blancos 11 points clear at the top of the Spanish top-flight to all but confirm the league title. 

Described as a 'transparency exercise', the body responsible for officiating in Spain has lifted the lid on the discussion between referee Soto Grado and the VAR officials. Barcelona were infuriated by a goal they felt should have been awarded after Lamine Yamal's strike from close range looked to have crossed over the line. Goalkeeper Andriy Lunin bundled the ball away at the near post but subsequent replays showed that Yamal's clever flick from a corner could have been legal. Less than 24 hours later, the RFEF posted the full conversation, which lasted a little over six minutes, between the match officials on their official X page. After Yamal's effort, an assistant referee could be heard saying 'bloody hell' twice before suggesting that a corner kick be given despite the confusion.

Joan Laporta has poured further fuel on the fire caused by Lamine Yamal's controversial phantom goal by revealing the Catalan side could issue for a replayed tie.  Xavi's side fell to a 3-2 defeat on the road to Real Madrid on Sunday night, with Jude Bellingham's injury time winner leaving Los Blancos 11 points clear at the top and firmly in control of the title race.  Andreas Christensen and Fermin Lopez struck either side of Vinicius Junior's penalty as Barca twice took the lead, before Lucas Vazquez's equaliser and Bellingham's eventual third goal sealed the result for the hosts. 

Yamal thought he had put Barca 2-1 ahead when he seemingly flicked the ball in after a corner, but Andriy Lunin palmed the ball away and the referee waved play on. VAR couldn't confirm if it had crossed the line with only two angles available and LaLiga president Javier Tebas has since sought to defend the division's lack of goal-line technology. With Real Madrid going on to win 3-2 thanks to a late Jude Bellingham goal , the controversy has become a flashpoint.

PETE JENSON: Barcelona coach Xavi raged at more perceived refereeing injustice after he saw his team's slim hopes of winning the Spanish title disappear with defeat in Madrid. The Barcelona coach was unhappy that a first half shot on goal from Lamine Yamal was ruled out for not having crossed the line. La Liga does not have goal-line technology and various freeze frames looked inconclusive after the 16-year-old flicked a Raphinha corner goalwards and Madrid keeper Lunin scrambled the ball away on the line.

A defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu would leave Barça with a six-game run-in and only second place to play for.  They need to finish second for the €5million [£4.27m] they will earn from the Spanish Super Cup, but chasing runners-up positions is not what the club is about and May will be a long month mainly spent speculating over who the new manager will be.

L'Equipe hailed Kylian Mbappe for making Barcelona 'his garden' as Paris Saint-Germain completed a stunning comeback to reach the Champions League semi-finals. Mbappe was one of five PSG players earning an 8 out of 10 rating after scoring his side's third and fourth goal as the Ligue 1 champions set up a semi-final showdown against Borussia Dortmund.  'He was expected to be the saviour and he finally was,' L'Equipe wrote, noting Barcelona was now 'his garden' after the France star scored a hat-trick at the Camp Nou in the first leg of the Round of 16 three years ago. 

The teenager was substituted in the first half of his side's chaotic tie against PSG after Ronald Araujo was sent off for a last-man tackle on Bradley Barcola just 29 minutes into the game. The decision triggered a collapse from the home side, who were leading by two goals five minutes before the break. A collapse of significant magnitude saw PSG race into a lead, however, with Barca manager Xavi also sent off - as well as a member of his coaching staff - in the second period having hooked his teenage sensation earlier in the game.

The Barcelona boss stalked referee Istvan Kovacs, who initially walked away from him, around the pitch and made his feelings clear to him and an assistant. They eventually shook hands after Xavi had vented towards Kovacs on a night dripping with emotion and drama. Xavi had been given a straight red card after booting some of the padding around the VAR monitor in the second half.

PETE JENSON: Barcelona saw red three times and Kylian Mbappe scored twice as Paris Saint Germain knocked the Spanish giants out of the Champions League. Barcelona had to play with ten men for an hour after defender Ronald Araujo was sent off in the first half. And Romanian referee Istvan Kovacs also showed red cards to Xavi and his goalkeeping coach Jose Ramon De la Fuente as the French team won 4-1 on the night and 6-4 on aggregate. Araujo left the field indicating that his team had been robbed. And it was with the same complaint that Xavi was sent from his technical area. 

PSG came from behind to beat Barcelona 4-1, wrapping up a 6-4 aggregate win and a place in the Champions League semi-finals on Tuesday night. Barcelona held the advantage from last week's first leg after winning 3-2 in Paris, and they extended their lead after 12 minutes following fine work from Lamine Yamal before his cross was touched home by Raphinha. But the tie turned just before the half hour mark when Ronald Araujo was sent off for a last-man challenge on Bradley Barcola, and Ousmane Dembele then came back to haunt his former club as he brought PSG level on the night.

Police are investigating an alleged racist gesture made by a Mallorca fan towards Real Madrid's Aurelien Tchouameni on Saturday. Tchouameni scored with a thunderous 48th-minute shot from distance as the LaLiga leaders claimed a 1-0 victory. As he celebrated his 30-yard screamer, his third goal of the season, with team-mates, TV cameras picked up the supporter making alleged monkey gestures in the background.

A Mallorca supporter was captured aiming racist abuse at Aurelien Tchouameni after the Real Madrid star's winning goal on Saturday. Tchouameni scored in the 48th minute with a thunderous shot from distance to beat Mallorca goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic. The midfielder wheeled away to celebrate his 30-yard screamer, his third goal of the season.

The CIES Football Observatory have revealed their list of the most valuable young stars in the world - with Barcelona's 16-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal topping the standings.  CIES's list includes the top 100 players yet to turn 23, including stars like Chelsea's Cole Palmer after his outstanding first season at Stamford Bridge that has seen him score 19 goals in all competitions. He has been rated at £100million by the observatory. Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz - who has been dazzling under boss Xabi Alonso amid their unbeaten run in the Bundesliga - and Man City's Jeremy Doku also feature high up the list, being rated at £110m and £91.5m respectively. 

Spanish TV station Movistar Plus+ have fired analyst German Burgos after Barcelona and Paris St Germain refused to give interviews to the network following a comment about Barca's Lamine Yamal ahead of Wednesday's Champions League match. Movistar Plus+ earlier on Thursday apologised to winger Yamal after Burgos, a former Argentina goalkeeper and assistant manager at Atletico Madrid, said 'if [professional football] doesn't go well for him, he could end up at a traffic light.' The comment, which has been interpreted as a reference to people who stand at traffic lights asking drivers for money, sparked outrage and led to both teams refusing to give interviews to the Spanish rights holder after the match.

Former Atletico Madrid assistant manager German Burgos had to apologise on Spanish television after a comment about Barcelona 's 16-year-old star Lamine Yamal. Burgos, working as a pundit on Movistar Plus, was speaking over images of the Barcelona youngster juggling the ball along the touchline ahead of Barca's game against PSG.

Barcelona is concerned that this will be a repeat of the Pedri tragedy, while Spain is considering Lamine Yamal for Euro 2024 and the Olympic Games. With another blockbuster display during Spain's 3-3 draw with Brazil on Tuesday evening, the 16-year-old winger captured the nation's notice. Despite only making his international debut in September last year, many believe Yamal has already secured a seat on the plane to Germany for Euro 2024.

The latest international break may be over, but the narratives and discussions surrounding various national teams are only likely to rise in the run-up to Euro 2024. The 24 teams that will be competing in Germany this summer have been confirmed at the conclusion of Tuesday's play-off finals. Despite their financial difficulties, Barcelona mayor Joan Laporta has maintained that the club does not have to sell any of their actors. The Catalan club has had financial difficulties in recent years, but Laporta has confirmed that Barcelona would not be compelled to sell players such as Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, and Gavi. Barcelona also agreed not to a £200 million (£172 million) bid for the 16-year-old wonderkid Lamine Yamal, according to Laporta.
