Kyle Lafferty is almost three months out of football after being banned by the Scottish Football Association for a sectarian insult he made to a fan. After being asked to pose for a picture in a nightclub, the 35-year-old Kilmarnock striker was caught making the slur. The Northern Ireland forward will now not be available to play against Celtic in the League Cup semi-finals at Hampden on January 14/15.

After concluding their own internal probe, Lafferty's club side Kilmarnock has also been fined a'substantial fine.' Footage of the 35-year-old striker last week as he was on international service with Northern Ireland emerged last week. On a night out with his Northern Irish colleagues, it seemed Lafferty reacts to a Celtic supporter.

Ian Baraclough, the Northern Ireland manager, admitted he had seen the footage but refused to comment further during his press conference on Friday.
