He is Bob Marley's only child, with Anita Belnavis, Jamaican table tennis champion, who is a little boy.
Early life and family
Ky-Mani Marley was born in Falmouth, Jamaica, to Anita Belnavis, the Jamaican table tennis champion; and reggae legend Bob Marley. Ky-Mani and Belnavis immigrated to Miami, Florida, at the age of nine. Ky-Mani was unaware of his musical abilities in his youth, with sports being his first love. He took piano and guitar lessons as a child and performed trumpet in his high school band, as well as playing trumpet. He competed in soccer and American football as an athlete.
Career
Ky-Mani began rapping and deejaying as a youth. "Unnecessary Badness" was his first album. After being asked to sing a hook to a song at a recording session in Miami, he was inspired as a singer. Soon, Ky-Mani began experimenting with lay tracks, with his brothers, Stephen, Julian, and Damian.
Marley joined Shang Records where he recorded his debut album in 1996, "Wenter Like Son" (which debuted on the British reggae charts), "Who the Cap Fit (remix)"), and "Sensimelia," all of which contributed to his rising success among the younger generation of reggae musicians. On "Avenue," a hit cover version of Eddy Grant's "Electric Avenue," Ky-Mani joined forces with Pras of the Fugees in 1997. When Marley first appeared in Miami for the first time, it was at Midem (international music showcase). Marley performed a set that was broadcast live by the Caribbean News Agency to 36 countries in the Cameo Theatre.
A bidding war has erupted in Marley. In 1997, he joined Gee Street/V2 Records, where he began a partnership with label mate P.M. On Up, Dawn on the single "Gotta Be Movin' On Up."
The Journey, Marley's next album, was released in 2000. He recorded Many More Roads, his third studio album that had been nominated for a Grammy Award, in 2001 and went on tour. Milestone, his fourth studio album, was released in 2004. He first appeared on Radio in 2007. Maestro, his fifth album, was released in 2015.
In the Jamaican films Shottas and One Love, Marley's acting career included lead roles.
Marley is married to Janie E.K. Green.
