Variety announced on Friday that Grey's Anatomy had been revived for a twentieth season at ABC. The series, which will soon say goodbye to Dr. Maggie Pierce, has been the longest running primetime medical drama in television history during its run. Executive producer Meg Marinis would also be the showrunner of the forthcoming film, according to the magazine.

With showrunner Krista Vernoff leaving the program just months after Grey's Anatomy actor Ellen Pompeo revealed that she'd leave the show as a series regular, ABC's long-running medical drama has seen another shake-up. Vernoff, 51, who began as a staff writer on the program when it debuted in 2005, rose to the series's head writer and showrunner. She was brought back in 2017 to appear as showrunner on both Grey's Anatomy and the spin-off Station 19, but she is now residing on Deadline.
